Administrative
Sat 5 Dec 2009
Yesterday we completed the merge of all guides formerly on rockymountainroads.com onto AARoads. During this we restructured the directories, and linked most guides to one another for continuity purposes. This is part of our overall goal to restructure the entire AARoads site, and the movement of westcoastroads.com material onto the main site is next.

Somehow our settings for allowing comments required users to be registered with an account on the blog since May 22nd. Unfortunately, we have only caught this error just now, but have now corrected it. Feel free to leave comments on any post.

New pages and updates at AARoads
Posted by Alex under Administrative , Interstate Highways[2] Comments
I’ve spent the last 6 weeks or so working through a mammoth backlog going back to 2004 in an effort to update existing pages and create new sections of the website. Now online is a fledgling Michigan page with a handful of photos from our Interstate 80 trip in September 2005 and Carter Buchanan’s November 2004 Midwest trip. These trips also represent the bulk of the Ohio updates that now include coverage of all of Interstate 80 westbound and large portions of Interstate 75, as well as Toledo area coverage. I have two more batches of photos for Ohio to go through covering both Cleveland from Justin Cozart in 2006 and Cincinnati from the rest of Carter’s trip.
Further south and continuing through my 2005-backlog, West Virginia coverage is now online for Interstate 64 west from Virginia to Beckley and Interstate 77 south from Beckley to the Virginia state line. These freeways are among some of the most beautiful in the eastern third of the country in my opinion.
Also revamped was all of southeastroads into the new template design. I coupled that makeover with updates to the aging Tennessee @ SouthEastRoads section of the site. Added are photos I took through Chattanooga in 2005 and photos from myself also in 2005 and from Andy earlier this year in northeast Tennessee. Interstate 26 is now up to date to reflect the 2007-exit renumbering and 2005-extension northward over Interstate 181. Additionally we added information on the SmartFix40 construction project in Knoxville that completely rebuilt a portion of Tennessee 158 and will close a three mile or so section of Interstate 40 in downtown Knoxville for approximately 14 months beginning in May 2008.

You may have noticed that the AARoads home page looks different or that AARoadtrips now redirects visitors to AARoads. These are a few changes that we have had in the works for a long time now and is part of an overall reorganization that we have wanted.
AARoadtrips guides are now split between Mid-Altantic Roads @ AARoads and Midwest Roads @ AARoads. LoneStarRoads is also now again a part of Texas @ AARoads. Other websites will remain on their own for now, but some could merge back under the AARoads website directly in the future.
Additionally all Updates for the aforementioned pages and pre-existing AARoads webpages are now listed in just one place.
Updatewise, three new maps were added to Delaware Highways and Cecil County Highways in Maryland is fully up to date.

Unfortunately the servers at the hosting company for AARoads.com and the AARoads Blog went down on Thursday for a period of almost 48 hours. During this shut down, email, blog posts and comments made throughout this week (April 2-6) were lost. Things were restored last evening and hopefully will not undergo such a long down period again. Thanks for bearing with us.

Now you may find us alternatively at http://www.allaboutroads.com and the blog at http://blog.aaroads.com/
For many years people have wondered for what the AA in AARoads.com stood? Well here’s the answer, All About Roads. Our sites strive to cover roads anywhere and everywhere, from future Interstates to rural back roads and everything in between. What started out in 1997 and 1998 respectively grew into an eight-domain website collection covering roads from Hawaii to Maine, from Los Angeles to New York, and more recently from North America to Europe. New members of the website family add local insight and knowledge to our respective areas of coverage. With them and our continued commitment to roads and highway travel, we hope to continue our expansion and growth in the years to come!
Thanks as always for visiting.

Well it seems that I have been updating Interstate Guide, Interstate Guide, Interstate Guide. However, there is a light at the end of that tunnel. With the recent completion of Interstate 27 and Interstate 110 in Texas (as well as a picture of an 80 mph speed limit sign in West Texas on Interstate 20, sorry Kevin), it seems like the next stage is to update some photos on some Interstates from Florida, and then it will be time to get back to the Golden State of California, working on the Riverside County desert areas. However, I am open to other ideas. Another concept would be to create pages that depict the remaining sections of I-8, I-10, and I-19 in Arizona. I could also shift over to Northern California, working on a recent trip to the redwoods. Please email me at afield#aaroads.com and let me know what you want to see next. And no, I am not driving to Illinois to photograph I-39, I-88, and I-90 for a roadtrip page. While I would love to do that (and many other Midwestern Highways), we have far more coverage to share from the West, Northeast, and Southeast. (You could say that one of my frequently asked questions is why we don’t have roadtrip pages for Midwestern States. That could be done, but then I’d have to live in Illinois, Iowa, or Indiana.) So in the meantime, let me know what you think should be done next!

Well it’s finally come together, the AARoads Blog. I’ve always wanted a forum for the site, but finding someone to help us set it up, let alone trying to figure it out ourselves, has been tedious at best, so we gave up on the concept. A few months ago Justin posed the idea of instead creating a blog, similar to the ones he had at tropicalturnpikes.com and bayciti.net. Both Andy and I agreed that the concept sounded good, and with Justin’s help, we’ve turn it into reality.
So here it is, the AARoads blog, a place to read about current and future roadtrips, about page updates, major road news, our thoughts, about potential new web endeavors, and other site news.
