California 111 - Imperial Valley Pioneers Expressway south
Leaving the Brawley Bypass, which fully opened to traffic in 2013, this California 111 south reassurance shield is posted after the California 78 east intersection. Ahead, California 111 travels south toward El Centro and Calexico on a four-lane expressway alignment. This expressway was constructed in the late 1990s and early 2000s parallel to Old Highway 111, which is located just west of here and maintained by Imperial County. Photo taken 05/07/06.

Imperial County S-27 travels east as a farm-to-market road, connecting with California 115, Imperial County S-32 (Holt Road), and Imperial County S-33 (Highline Road). Evan Hewes Highway is the designation of Old U.S. 80 as it travels east-west through the Imperial Valley. This designation not only includes S-80, which begins in Ocotillo and proceeds east through El Centro to end at California 115 near Holtville, but also includes the southernmost portion of California 115 as well as the lengthy extant section of Old U.S. 80 east of Holtville Hot Springs. These Imperial Irrigation District power lines had to be relocated when California 111 was realigned onto its expressway alignment. Ahead, California 111 will shiftly gently to the southwest to rejoin its original alignment. As a result of this realignment, the monopole power line structure shown in this picture had to be installed since the original, steel-lattice power pylon was situated within the footprint of today's expressway.
