California 197


California 197 is North Bank Road along the Smith River between U.S. 199 at Jedediah Smith State Park and U.S. 101 at Smith River just south of the Oregon border.

Shortly after departing from U.S. 199, westbound California 197 follows North Bank Road toward Smith River. The two-lane highway winds through some redwoods and forest as it approaches U.S. 101. Another mileage sign is posted shortly thereafter on westbound California 197/North Bank Road. U.S. 101 is about seven miles west of here. Also shown is the distance to Crescent City (16 miles via U.S. 101 south) and the Oregon State Line (17 miles via U.S. 101 north). Note the use of a button copy U.S. 101 shield on the mileage sign. California 197 is a short connecting route that follows North Bank Road between U.S. 199 in Jedediah Smith State Park and U.S. 101 at Smith River. U.S. 199 ends only four miles from here, at the point where it meets U.S. 101 north of Crescent City. Photo taken 05/28/06.
