City of Wilmington
	Approaching Delaware 9 (Fourth Street) on Delaware 2 (Union Street) westbound. The upcoming intersection represents the northern terminus of Delaware 9. The route is the second longest state highway in the state, traveling from Wilmington southward to Dover A.F.B. Photo taken 04/27/04.
	Union Street traverses the Little Italy area of north Wilmington between Seventh and Fourth Streets. Delaware 9 travels south from here toward downtown and Southbridge before departing the city en route to New Castle and the Delaware Memorial Bridge. 	Delaware 48 westbound merges with Delaware 2 west (Union Street) from Second Street for one block to rejoin Delaware 48 eastbound via Lancaster Avenue. The one-block overlap consists of four overall lanes as Delaware 48 turns to the north. Delaware 2 otherwise continues westward to Canby Park and the town of Elsmere. Photo taken 04/27/04.

An original Delaware 2 cutout shield remains in place along Union Street westbound after the split with Delaware 48. The cutout was one of only three left in the city as of April 2004, and two left as of August 2007. Photos taken 06/00 & 08/05/07.

Town of Elsmere
	Delaware 2 ascends above the CSX Railroad through the Elsmere between the Wilmington city line (Prospect Road) and junction Delaware 100 (Dupont Road). The four-lane span that Delaware 2 uses was built in the late 1980s to replace a narrow two-lane bridge. Photo taken 03/20/04.

	Delaware 2 departs the CSX Railroad under crossing and intersects Delaware 100 (Dupont Road). The north-south arterial begins nearby at Delaware 4 (Maryland Avenue) in Richardson Park. Northward Dupont Road encounters the eastern terminus of Delaware 34 (Faulkland Road) before nipping the city of Wilmington at Delaware 48 (Lancaster Avenue). Photo taken 03/20/04.
	Westbound Delaware 2 (Wilmington Avenue) at the intersection of Sanders Lane and New Road. New Road parallels Delaware 2 eastward from here to Delaware 100 and the CSX Railroad line. The two-lane roadway represents an original alignment of Delaware 2. Sanders Lane stems northward into residential areas of central Elsmere. Photo taken 03/20/04.
County of New Castle
	Delaware 2 (Kirkwood Highway) leaves the town of Elsmere at the Little Mill Creek crossing adjacent to the V.A. Hospital. From there Kirkwood Highway travels westward to Prices Corner and junction Delaware 141. Photo taken 03/20/04.
	Traffic to Delaware 141 leaves Delaware 2 via a single lane off-ramp at the Woodward Avenue intersection of Kirkwood Highway. 	The Delaware 2 westbound ramp to Delaware 141 partitions into separate north and southbound components. Delaware 141 northbound transitions from the Newport Freeway into the four-lane arterial of Ferris and Centre Roads to the east. 	Delaware 72 north follows Possum Park Road to White Clay Creek State Park and Paper Mill Road; the state route ends at Delaware 7 (Limestone Road) in the Pike Creek Valley. City of Newark
	Delaware 2 west & 72 south (Kirkwood Highway) at the intersection with Cleveland Avenue and CSX Railroad over crossing. The tandem intersects East Main Street ahead (Delaware 2 Business & 273 west) at the end of the Robert Kirkwood Highway. From there Delaware 2 & 72 travel Library Avenue southward across the AMTRAK northeastern corridor onto South Chapel Street to junction Delaware 4 (Chestnut Hill Road). Photo taken 04/24/04.

	A large signalized intersection represents the junction between Delaware 2, 4, and 72. Pencader Shopping Center resides along the southwest corner of the junction. Delaware 4 (Chestnut Hill Road) east heads to Ogletown; Delaware 2 & 4 share pavement to Elkton Road where Delaware 4 ends. 	Delaware 2 westbound returns to its original alignment on Elkton Road for the one-mile drive into the state of Maryland. The state route becomes Maryland 279 at the border and intersects the Exit 109 interchange of Interstate 95 one mile south of there. 	The final westbound reassurance shield of Delaware 2 resides within sight distance of the Maryland state line. Elkton Road becomes Maryland 279 at the border and continues westward to Exit 109 of Interstate 95 and into the Cecil County seat of Elkton itself.
