The Guide to Delaware State Route 10

Delaware 10 provides one of two routes between the state of Maryland and the Dover metropolitan area in central Delaware. The state route continues Sandtown Road (Maryland 287) into the state of Delaware as Willow Grove Road. From there the rural highway traverses Amish countryside through the hamlets of Sandtown, Mount Moriah, Petersburg, and Willow Grove. Delaware 10 Alternate loops eastward from Delaware 10 near Willow Grove along Henry Cowgill Road. The alterate route was signed in 1993 to provide a bypass route of south Dover for SR 1 Turnpike travelers between Dover A.F.B., U.S. 13 (Dupont Highway), and the town of Woodside (pop. 2,174). Delaware 10 continues northeast to the incorporated towns of Wyoming (pop. 1,141) and Camden (pop. 2,100) upon entering the Dover metro area.

Upon entering the town of Wyoming, Delaware 10 becomes Caesar Rodney Avenue. The north-south surface street carries the route 0.3 miles between South Street and Camden Wyoming Avenue. From there Delaware 10 turns eastward along Camden Wyoming Avenue into Camden itself and junction U..S. 13 Alternate (Main Street) and U.S. 13 (Dupont Highway). Delaware 10 expands to a four-lane divided between U.S. 13 and Bay Road (old U.S. 113) on Lebanon Road. The highway was widened in 1993 to improve the capacity for the SR 1 Turnpike connection with U.S. 13. Now the Puncheon Run Connector handles the load of through traffic between the Dupont Highway and Delaware 1.

Dover Map - AARoads

Delaware 10 provides the main route between Camden, Wyoming and Dover Air Force Base. Delaware 10 Alternate provides a bypass route to U.S. 13 from Lebanon Road.

Delaware 10 dates back to at least 1938. The east-west route however traveled between the Maryland state line and U.S. 13 outside of Camden until around 1980. The Lebanon Road alignment of the state highway came about in the 1980s. Although U.S. 113 and Delaware 1 no longer follow Bay Road, Delaware 10 still ends there in the shadow of the SR 1 Turnpike. Delaware 10 Alternate returns to Delaware 10 by way of old U.S. 113 Alternate (State Road) midway between U.S. 13 and Dover Air Force Base.

Western terminus
Delaware 10 transitions into Maryland 287 between Sandtown and Goldsboro, Maryland. Maryland 287 carries Delaware 10 traffic to Maryland 313 which in turn provides access to the U.S. 301 corridor on the Eastern Shore. There are no photos of the western terminus at this time. If you have one, please send me an email.
Eastern Terminus
Bay Road (former U.S. 113) splits with Delaware 1 at the Exit 95 partial-cloverleaf interchange of the SR 1 Turnpike. Exit 95 descends from the northbound lanes into the intersection with Delaware 10 (Lebanon Road) opposite the north gate of Dover A.F.B. Delaware 10 begins here and travels west along Lebanon Road to State Street (former U.S. 113 Alternate) and U.S. 13 (DuPont Highway) at Camden. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Lebanon Road enters the north gate of Dover A.F.B. adjacent to the Delaware 10 intersection with Bay Road. Interests to U.S. 13 north should remain on Bay Road north to its end near the state capital. Motorists bound for U.S. 13 south can use either Delaware 10 west or remain on Bay Road north to the Puncheon Run Connector freeway west. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Delaware 10 (Lebanon Road) westbound as it begins and travels underneath the SR 1 Turnpike at Bay Road. A loop ramp carries both Dover A.F.B. north gate and Bay Road southbound traffic onto Delaware 1's continuation of Bay Road south. Photo taken 08/05/07.
