The Guide to Delaware State Route 16

The path of Delaware 16 is vastly unchanged since 1938. The state route continues Maryland 16 into Delaware west of Adamsville in extreme southwest Kent County. Following Hickman Road east from the state line, Delaware 16 passes through the village of Adamsville and into Sussex County before merging with Delaware 36 (Scotts Store Road) outside of Greenwood. From there eastward, Delaware 16 & 36 share a two-mile overlap along Hickman Road, Market Street, and Beach Highway through the corporate limits of Greenwood.

Delaware 36 turns northward along Shawnee Road from Delaware 16 (Beach Highway) to the city of Milford. Delaware 16 continues on an eastward path to junction U.S. 113 and the town of Ellendale. The Beach Highway becomes Broadkill Road at junction Delaware 5A & 30 (Isaacs Road). Broadkill Road stays north of the nearby town of Milton and intersects Delaware 5 (Union Street). 2.7 miles east of Union Street is the conclusion of Delaware 16 at Delaware 1. Broadkill Road however continues another four miles to the village of Broadkill Beach on Delaware Bay.
