ALTERNATE
Delaware 404A was commisioned around 1997 to reduce thru traffic in Bridgeville. Following the completion of a new road (Newton Road) north of Bridgeville between Delaware 404 and U.S. 13, the mainline of Delaware 404 was relocated to bypass Bridgeville. With this relocation Delaware 404 in Bridgeville became Delaware 404 Business.
That rerouting in 1999 lead to the decommisioning of Delaware 404 Alternate. With that stated, the 2002 Traffic Count Report by DelDOT still maintains a section on Delaware 404 Alternate. The 4.74 miles that pertain to this bypass should be figured into the Delaware 404 overall tally. However, this is not the case with the report. A few of the reassurance shields for Delaware 404 Business are bannerless and thus allude to the fact that the mainline of Delaware 404 still travels through town.
