U.S. 113 Northbound

U.S. 113 Northbound

Old U.S. 113 (Bay Road) Northbound
Bay Road (former U.S. 113) splits with Delaware 1 at the Exit 95 partial-cloverleaf interchange of the SR 1 Turnpike. Exit 95 descends from the northbound lanes into the intersection with Delaware 10 (Lebanon Road) opposite the north gate of Dover A.F.B. Delaware 10 begins here and travels west along Lebanon Road to State Street (former U.S. 113 Alternate) and U.S. 13 (DuPont Highway) at Camden. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Lebanon Road enters the north gate of Dover A.F.B. adjacent to the Delaware 10 intersection with Bay Road. Interests to U.S. 13 north should remain on Bay Road north to its end near the state capital. Motorists bound for U.S. 13 south can use either Delaware 10 west or remain on Bay Road north to the Puncheon Run Connector freeway west. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Mileage sign remaining from the days of U.S. 113 along Bay Road continues to cite Wilmington as a control point. Connections with U.S. 13 will leads motorists eventually to Wilmington, but considering Bay Road's role as a local arterial, Wilmington should no longer be displayed here. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Delaware 1 curves west of Bay Road before looping over the four-lane divided highway south of the Puncheon Run Connector. A northbound on-ramp provides direct access to the northbound Turnpike for Smyrna and Wilmington from Dover A.F.B. and Delaware 10 (Lebanon Road). Photo taken 08/05/07.
Lafferty Lane ties into Bay Road south of the SR 1 Turnpike northbound on-ramp. Delaware 1 bypasses Dover to the east, next meeting U.S. 13 at Scarborough Road near Dover Downs. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Interests to U.S. 13 should take the Puncheon Run Connector west from Bay Road. The Puncheon Run Connector splits from Delaware 1 south ahead of the Bay Road under crossing. Photo taken 08/05/07.
A partial-cloverleaf joins the Puncheon Run Connector with Bay Road opposite of the connectors merge onto Delaware 1 northbound. The connector parallels the Puncheon Run west to U.S. 13 (DuPont Highway) south of the St. Jones River and north of Camden. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Bay Road passes by the Danner campus of DelDot and the Blue Hen Corporate Center before intersecting Court Street west and South Little Creek Road north. Court Street provides a connection to U.S. 13 south before continuing west to the Delaware state capital building. South Little Creek road east continues the Court Street alignment to junction Delaware 9 at Little Creek. Note the sign replacements between 2004 and 2007. Photos taken 04/13/04 & 08/05/07.
Peering west from Bay Road at the Court Street intersection and sign bridge with U.S. 13 (Dupont Highway). Court Street provides a four-lane arterial into downtown Dover from the east. U.S. 13 links the city of Dover with the towns of Camden and Wyoming southwest of the capital. Photo taken 04/13/04.
Northbound historic U.S. 113 defaults onto U.S. 13 (Dupont Highway) beyond the upcoming intersection with Court Street & Little Creek Road. An end sign remains attached to a light post within the median of Bay Road at U.S. 13 (Dupont Highway). There were no end signs posted at all for U.S. 113 in 2000, so a replacement sign came and went in the time between 2000 and 2004. The end banner remained in 2007. Photo taken 04/13/04.
Two months after the U.S. 113 truncation became official, an end sign (since removed) for the federal route remained in place at the Bay Road merge onto U.S. 13 northbound. The Dupont Highway constitutes a six lane divided highway between historic U.S. 113 and Scarborough Road. Just one third of a mile north is junction Delaware 8 (Division Street).
