The Guide to U.S. Highway 113 Southbound in Delaware

U.S. 113 Southbound

U.S. 113 Southbound
A Begin U.S. 113 shield assembly was posted after the February 2004 truncation of U.S. 113 on the southbound off-ramp of U.S. 113 & Delaware 1 Business from Delaware 1 (Bay Road). Photo taken 08/05/07.
U.S. 113 & Delaware 1 Business briefly overlap along DuPont Boulevard between Delaware 1 and the intersection with Warner Road. Delaware 1 Business branches southeast along Walnut Street at Warner Road to Milford High School and Rehoboth Boulevard. Photo taken 08/05/07.
U.S. 113 quickly transitions into a commercial strip from Delaware 1 Business (Walnut Street) southward to junction Delaware 14 (Northeast Front Street). Interests to downtown Milford should take Walnut Street south from its partition with Delaware 1 (Rehoboth Boulevard) or remain on U.S. 113 south to Delaware 14 (Northeast Front Street) east. Photo taken 08/05/07.
A pair of iron Welcome to Milford city signs are posted at the U.S. 113 & Delaware 1 Business (DuPont Boulevard) intersection with Warner Road. Despite the sign displaying 1954, Milford incorporated in 1807 and was originally settled in 1680 by settler Henry Bowan as the Saw Mill Range. The city limits now extend northward to Swan Creek along Delaware 1. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Mileage sign highlighting the distance to Georgetown, the Sussex County seat and junction U.S. 9, and Pocomoke City, Maryland, the southern terminus. The corporate limits sign is not entirely true as areas west of U.S. 113 are already within the city of Milford and attached to the parcels north of the partial "Y" interchange with Delaware 1. However a small notch of county land does front the northbound side of U.S. 113 & Delaware 1 Business northeast of Warner Road. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Southbound at the intersection of Airport Road west and Northeast 10th Street east. Airport Road links U.S. 113 (DuPont Boulevard) with Delaware 15 (Canterbury Road); Northeast 10th Street heads east to Milford High School, Delaware 1 (Coastal Highway) and New Wharf Road. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Approaching junction Delaware 14 (Northwest Front Street east / Milford Harrington Highway west) on U.S. 113 (DuPont Boulevard) southbound. Delaware 14 begins at the Milford Bypass of Delaware 1 and ventures west through downtown to DuPont Boulevard. Photo taken 08/05/07.

Delaware 14 continues northwest from Milford along Milford Harrington Highway to junction Delaware 15 (Canterbury Road) and junction U.S. 13 (DuPont Highway) at Harrington along a rural route. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Delaware 14 shield and guide sign posted ahead of the Northwest Front Street / Milford Harrington Highway intersection. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Southbound reassurance shield posted after the intersection with Delaware 14 (Front Street) on Dupont Boulevard in Milford. U.S. 113 crosses the Mispillion River into Sussex County from Kent County ahead. Photo taken 04/13/04.
U.S. 113 southbound enters Sussex County and sees this mileage sign. The federal highway crosses the Mispillion River between Haven and Silver Lakes. The stretch south of the county line is less commercial than the stretch north of the river. Photo taken 04/13/04.
Approaching Delaware 36 (Lakeview Avenue) on U.S. 113 (Dupont Boulevard) southbound in Milford. Delaware 36 angles northeastward from Delaware 16 outside of Greenwood to the city of Milford via Shawnee Road. In Milford itself Delaware 36 travels Lakeview Avenue northeast into downtown. Photo taken 04/13/04.
The last junction of consequence on U.S. 113 southbound in the Milford area is the intersection with Delaware 36 (Lakeview Avenue). The east-west route links the city with Slaughter Beach to the east and Greenwood to the west. The route saw extension in the early 1990s westward to junction Delaware 404 at Scotts Corner. Photo taken 04/13/04.
Delaware 20 (Hardscrabble Road) merges onto U.S. 113 at the State Street intersection outside of Millsboro (pop. 2,360). The two highways from here share 3.2 miles of pavement through the Millsboro vicinity. Photo taken by Adam Froehlig (04/04/04).
South of Millsboro is the U.S. 113 south & Delaware 20 eastbound split. Delaware 20 departs the federal highway for Dagsboro Road. The state route merges with Delaware 26 on Main Street in Dagsboro (pop. 519) 2.3 miles to the southeast. Handy Road ties into the upcoming intersection of U.S. 113 and Dagsboro Road (Delaware 20 east). Photo taken by Adam Froehlig (04/04/04).
At Selbyville and the Maryland State line U.S. 113 (Dupont Boulevard) narrowed from four to two lanes and became undivided. DelDOT left a road stub for the eventual four-laning of U.S. 113 in Worcester County, Maryland. The Worcester Highway provides access to Ocean City, Maryland by way of three routes: Maryland 589 in 4.5 miles, Maryland 90 (Ocean City Expressway) in 5.5 miles, and U.S. 50 in 8.5 miles. U.S. 113 otherwise sinks 9.5 miles southward to the Worcester County seat of Berlin. Photos taken by Rahul (05/00).
Construction is well underway in the four-laning of U.S. 113 (Worcester Highway) from the Delaware state line southward to Berlin, Maryland. Pictured here is the same scene as is displayed in the photoboxes above. Photo taken by Adam Froehlig (04/04/04).
Old U.S. 113 (Bay Road) Southbound
A look at what was the first southbound shield for U.S. 113 on Bay Road. The assembly was posted south of Court Street and was still in place as of April 2004 but removed by 2007. Photo taken 01/00.
Leaving Court Street on Bay Road south, motorists are advised to use Delaware 1 south for the Dover Air Force Base Commercial Gate. The gate is accessible from northbound only and requires a u-turn at either Delaware 9 for non-trucks or Bowers Beach Road for trucks. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Nearing the entrance to the Blue Hen Corporate Center, formerly the Blue Hen Mall, on Bay Road (former U.S. 113) southbound. A DART depot resides west of the signalized intersection. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Bay Road south at Transportation Circle, a loop serving the Danner campus of the Delaware Department of Transportation. Transportation Circle links with Public Safety Boulevard and its array of government buildings. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Nearing the Puncheon Run Connector westbound on-ramp along Bay Road south. Bay Road sees a direct ramp onto Delaware 1 south beyond the Puncheon Run Connector overpass. The road otherwise proceeds south to junction Delaware 10 (Lebanon Road) west at the North Gate to Dover A.F.B. Sign changes between 2004 and 2007 reflect the change of the Dover A.F.B. Truck entrance to the North Gate and the truncation of U.S. 113. Photos taken 04/13/04 & 08/05/07.
Lone U.S. 13 trailblazers direct motorists onto the Puncheon Run Connector freeway westbound to Dupont Highway. The connector parallels a waterway by the same name directly to Dupont Highway south of State Street and north of Camden and Wyoming. Photo taken 08/05/07.
Bay Road south splits with its Delaware 1 southbound on-ramp beyond the signalized intersection with President Street. Delaware 1 constitutes a full freeway southward through the Dover A.F.B. vicinity. Bay road meanwhile travels a short distance further to the North Gate entrance and westbound beginning of Delaware 10 (Lebanon Road). Interests to the northbound SR 1 Turnpike are advised to u-turn at the Lebanon Road intersection with Bay Road's end. A second ramp onto Delaware 1 south exists from Delaware 10 westbound for other Bay Road drivers. Photo taken 04/13/04. Photos taken 04/13/04 & 08/05/07.
U.S. 113 and Delaware 10 shield assembly posted before the ramp split onto Delaware 1 south. Since replaced, the new assembly reflects Delaware 1 in place of U.S. 113. Delaware 10 begins at a partial-cloverleaf interchange with Bay Road and the SR 1 Turnpike along Lebanon Road west. The state highway travels west to Camden and Wyoming. Photo taken 04/13/04.
