In small road geek news, Google removed the shields for US 84 for about a month. Contacted em, and they said conflicting interests prevented them from readding the shields. checked back, and they added the shields. US 165 between Monroe and Sterlington (both in LA) is a broken route.

I wonder what "conflicting interests" could possibly mean....either the road is US 84 or it's not!  It's not a matter of opinion or taste.

US 1A in Thomaston and Rockland, Maine is still W. City Ave, I see.....my submission of a report probably will have not done anything.  If they are getting reports of every instance of a misnamed US highway right now, they will be swamped forever.  Whoever at Google came up with allowing that kind of change to be made without an easy revert shouldn't be with Google much longer.....

US-19W lost it's shields in NC and TN. I sent them a report and they only re-added the shields back in NC (only 2 total showing up at the same locations in all zooms).....

Google is f'ed up bad I'd say.

US 1 has still lost all of its shields; it's W City Ave its whole length right now.  Useless......

Where does the "City Ave" name come from, and how can Google Maps get rid of ALL of US 1?

Likely Philadelphia, where U.S. 1 straddles the city line along City Avenue.

It's easy when the reviewers @ Google don't have the faintest idea what they are doing.  Thus, the stupidest things get past them with ease.

And yet, they turned down my changes for setting the speed limit to what it really is on a local road.

I think Google has a reserve of highways that they use... corrected a piece of US Highway 165 north of where I live, only to find two identical sections about a mile south were removed.

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but US 41/US 76/SR 2/SR 3 in Ringgold, GA (near Chattanooga, TN) is labeled as "U.S. Route 41 in Illinois".

I'm about to report it.

While that one in particular wasn't mentioned on the last page, people were well aware of things like this happening on several other US Highways already.

First Colonial Road in Virginia Beach is shown as SR 615 (with a circle) and VA 408 (written out "State Route 408"). It is currently neither. (Can't post the link because I'm on my phone.) There are several other instances of the old Princess Anne County secondary route numbers in Virginia Beach as well.

For some reason Google's coverage of US 41 in Florida contains the blatantly incorrect street name "US Route 41 in Illinois."

While you're at it, you can report that. I'll bet they made the same mistake in Georgia too.

The entire length of US 41 is labeled as "in Illinois"... all the way up to Copper Harbor, Michigan. US 2 is "in Idaho", so when I was plotting something the other day, I could have followed the combination of "U.S. Route 2 in Idaho", "U.S. Route 41 in Illinois" and "Michigan 35" (they can't seem to get that corrected to just M-35 either).

tdindy88

I think it's been mentioned further up, but it seems that every U.S. highway that goes through Indiana that also goes through Illinois, that doesn't have a name of its own (U.S. 40 = National Road, which is still mentioned) is called US Route XX in Illinois. I just wasn't sure if this mistake was made to other segments of highway in other states.

vdeane

What's really bad is that the eastern US 2 is also labeled "US 2 in Idaho".

Probably any given US Route that passes through Illinois has that error as seen in this shot from KC along the I-70/US 40/US 24 multiplex.

Gary, others have reported the "errors" to google (see link above to examples of over 200 noted errors over 3 years) and have evidently been given run-arounds over the validitity of their concern.

I understand, but somehow it seems more errors than corrections are getting through. For example, I saw US 22 is now designated as an expressway between Pittsburgh and Altoona.

Gary Gilmore
Is it scheduled to be improved to expressway levels? Myself, as long as the road is in the right place, I'm smart enough to figure out that there's an error, and deal with it. By and large, Google Maps is pretty darn good, free, and will get you from point A to point B. (I also use it in conjunction with my TomTom, so one of them is bound to be right.)
Please, don't sue Alex & Andy over what I wrote above
