Alaska is hit by a 6.2 quake

Epicenter was in the far outer reaches of the Anchorage area, and about 63 miles underground.  An article in the Anchorage paper (which didn't even give the quake top billing) says nothing happened, other than stuff knocked off shelves, despite a magnitude that would've been more of a problem had it been closer to the surface or in a more populated area..

After Anchorage and other parts of south central Alaska got trashed by a 9.2 (the Good Friday earthquake of 1964), it was rebuilt to be rather earthquake-resistant.  Lesser quakes in the 5s have caused more damage in places, like Oklahoma and the Washington D.C. area, that are less earthquake-ready.
