What are these signs? (Canadian)

I watch quite a bit of HGTV, and it seems like most of it is shot in Canada.

In one show (called Income Property... which takes place in the Greater Toronto Area) I have some seen some weird things. One recurring example are what appear to be illuminated "X"s at intersections of roads in residential areas. What the heck are these?

I recreated what I *THINK* they looked like:

I think it's supposed to represent a crosswalk, but don't hold me to that.

If it's a main road, perhaps reversible lanes?

I accept and respect your identity as long as it's not dumb shit like "identifying as a vaccinated attack helicopter".

Now we're getting somewhere. Check out page 2 on this: http://www.dot.state.fl.us/safety/ped_bike/handbooks_and_research/research/FLASHXW%20in%20gville%20lakeland.pdf
Lower part of the page is showing exactly what I'm asking about.

edit: yep that's what they are. can't seem to find a more technical name for them, or any kind of technical guides w/ more info.

Some municipalities in Nova Scotia use similar ones too (Well, they used to - no new installations that I've seen).

Indeed, Ontario signs crosswalks with "X"es instead of a "walking man" like in the United States and Québec.
