Along motorways and other large roads, I quite like our modern gantry street lights, while in cities I prefer the wider older version. I'm also quite fond of these round residential area street lights.

In American English, these are generally called high-mast lighting systems - though around the U.S., "solid" steel poles are generally used instead of the lattice structures (which I think are attractive in their own way, and look "lighter" than a "solid" pole).
