Pasco CR 575 south at US 98. They look like county-made reproductions.

UPDATE: I was there today(October 21, 2009). It's gone.

Alex

I don't believe any of those Pasco-style colored shields are left. The US 98's I found in late 2007 were replaced by last year. The 3di-width US 301's were gone by last year too.

Ian

Does anyone know of any older or colored shields within the Lake Okeechobee area? Also, any within the Jacksonville-St. Augustine area? I may be going down there this Spring and thats why I ask.

Thanks!

The kissimee 192 shield was still there at the end of march...
Is it?  I found the location on Google Maps and it appears to be gone now.

Definitely gone.

Finally working through updates...

10 photos (8 US 1, 2 US 17) from Averill Hecht dating between 1979-1988.

A couple more Pasco County styled yellow U.S. 301 shields that are no longer posted:

Both of these assemblies were on Pasco County Road 54 west, pictured in 2006, gone by late 2007.

Yeah, I was there on 54 last month and there aren't any colored shields on CR 54 anymore near Zephyrhills.

Jake,

They were done a number of years ago (Wow, has it been nearly four years already!) through modifying shields up.  I realize they are not dead on accurate.  Thanks though!

(BTW, i owe you a reply on the scavenger hunt thread - been busy working on a few other things.)

For those who want a Kodachrome US shield, there is a US 17 up on ebay now

It is possibly a county install, the shape does not quite match the state standard outline.

It probably is, but i imagine someone out there prolly wont care that much just to get their hands on one in some way

Announcing Ebay finds on a public forum is a good way to guarantee you and your "friends" won't have a chance to get them.

None. The best you'll get in Okeechobee is an END FL 78 shield, and an END FL 16 shield in St. Augustine [but St. Johns CR 5A...Old Moultrie Road(?) or Lewis Speedway (CR 16A aka CR 133something, north of SR 16) at US 1 would be the only two places I can think of.

That looks like it's been replaced since you where last there.  Google's been back in that area with one of it's HR cameras.
End FL-16 shield

The old Orange US 41 signs at the end of Ehren Cutoff(Pasco County Road 583) before US 41 was widened to six lanes.

Yup. It's gone now.

The old Red US 19 sign eastbound on Hudson Avenue near Hudson Beach.

I touched up the "JCT" plaque so you could see it through the glare, but that's been gone for nearly eight or nine years.

It'd be fun to see colored shields come back.  I wonder if a white-on-black shield would look good for an alternate route.  I thought I saw some black place-cards somewhere in Virginia.

Fixing erroneous shields, one at a time...

This should be included here since it technically is in Florida.

Went driving/roadgeeking around Kissimmee/Poinciana with a friend with a nice camera and caught a US 17-92 shield assembly I saw a while back when I was driving in the same area. Luckily it's still there! I'll visit my friend again on Thursday and hopefully get the pictures onto here. Happy to know they still exist out there!

Ace10

As promised, here are the pictures my friend took on our trip. I had trouble embedding the images in my post so I just posted the URLs to them. Hope that's not a problem.

wait, are those new?  they use the modern shield shape, which I don't think I've ever seen a 17/92 pair do

I have no idea. I'm assuming you're talking about the colored 17/92's. The only times I think I've been down the road where I took the pictures was back in March of this year, and again in November of last year. March was when I thought I saw the yellow/blue 17/92's for the first time, but I don't quite remember it being at the intersection where the pictures were taken. But I did drive the same route I did back in March and neither myself nor my friend saw any more colored 17/92's along the route.

Osceola county may have had some older 17/92s lying around that they could use, maybe? I didn't check the signs for a manufacture date - not even sure if they have them or where to look.

Mergingtraffic

Just saw on GSV, that this sign is still there as of June 2016 but the I-95 shield is gone.

and this is the only US-27 shield left in Lake Placid. I think at one time there were 5 colored shields there.

I only take pics of good looking signs. Long live non-reflective button copy!

As of December 2015, many of the green US 27 shields were removed, and this was all I could find:

This thread hasn't had any posts since 2017, but I have to address the fact that the elimination of images and files from Yahoo Groups prevented many images from being kept alive.

I went out on a clinching trip in Panama City and the surrounding areas a couple days ago, and discovered this set of US-98 shields on Lisenby Ave southbound prior to 15th St.  Apologies if this has already been posted before.
