I was noticing that in the food service industry that, for obvious reasons, cooks must wear hats or hairnets as well as food servers if their hair is shoulder length or longer (men included) must tie their hair back.  Yet in Hooters or Ker's Winghouse, or the infamous Twin Peaks the female servers are aloud to get away with not wearing hats, hairnets, and ponytails just for aesthetics so that the girls look real hot so that along with the TV screens, it attracts male sports fans to patronize them via the old "Sex Sells" cliche.

I asked one specific employee of Winghouse in Orlando how that is so, and she told me that the company pays a monthly fine to the health department for doing so.  To me I guess that could work considering that Howard Stern pays tons of fines to the FCC for his unusual subject content, except maybe now on Sirius being a subscriber based venue just like Bill Maher is able to call his GOP rivals body part names being he is on HBO.  However, I did here rumors that Mr. Stern does broadcast his shows on a boat out in the middle of the ocean to avoid being harassed by the FCC.  I do not know if that is true or not, but its enough to make you think.

Also being a broadcast major, I do know about the constant fines that Howard Stern did pay the FCC for his "free speech beliefs."  So if that can work for ole Howie, then I assume that it can for what Fox News calls Breastaurants for the Hooter's type of concept to the consumer.  BTW to all you liberals out there, no I do not watch Fox news but the comment about Hooter's types was broadcasted outside the realm in many internet clips you see as the name they use is comical and gossip worthy to be posted.

Is that so?  Is all young female serving types of restaurants doing the Howard Stern thing and including fines as part of the company's budget?  Or are there loop holes out there that also allow for this?

It is true.  And hair is a major concern by the health department and consumers.  Some places even make men wear masks over beards and mustaches because this is taken quite seriously, but because "Sex sells" is being used to market wings and burgers it seems to be taken another way.

Now I won't stop eating at Ker's Winghouse or Hooters, but it does raise issue with me that I had to wear a mask when working for Spice World in Orlando about ten years ago, where I was not even serving food. Spice World packages food mainly garlic as you will find their brand in your local grocery store, yet we did handle food and had to follow the simple procedures needed.

I looked up some Health Department reports, including the restaurants you mentioned, and this violation doesn't even seem to get reported.  And from what I could find, it would be a 'basic' violation.  Reading some of those reports; there's a helluva lot more disgusting stuff going on than dealing with ponytails.

I waited tables when I was in high school and we had to wear either a paper hat or a hairnet. Only one of the males ever tried a hairnet and he did it just to see what it felt like (I recall he didn't like it and didn't wear one again).

I disapprove of these places. I like attractive females as much as the next guy, but I don't like that girls (especially younger ones) feel like they have to dress inappropriately in public in order to make money. To me it's like prostitution without the intercourse. I think that it is trashy.

As far as the barely legal thing goes, I have been in one of these restaurants with a group of guys I was working with, and it seemed creepy that a girl that was barely 18 was walking around with her ass out for the pleasure of men over 50.

And, yes, I get it that guys are often going to find younger girls attractive, but these places creep me out.

I do listen to Howard Stern occasionally.

He does broadcast from an island, it's called New York City. Sirius XM has a studio there where many channels broadcast. Due to it being a Paid system, you can use the seven dirty words and then some on it, but he does not use it a lot, the nuances of it come down to he doesn't feel it adds anything to over use it, but to just allow someone to speak what's on their mind without having to second guess themselves on what is and is not appropriate on the radio. I listened to the many part saga "the history of Howard Stern" which takes his childhood to the first 5 or so years of Sirius XM, his ups and downs, even clips of his College Radio show. That being said, here is something that you may not have known. It is legal to broadcast over the air, boob shots, softcore porn, what have you, under one condition. It is not free in the air, as in you have to know what you're getting to pick it up. Back in the 80s there were over the air pay TV stations, where you had a decoder box in your home to pick up the TV station. Philly had one on Channel 57 called Prizm which was a simulcast of the Prizm cable channel for sports, now Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia.

I never said how old I was when this happened.  And I live in the biggest college-going destination in the country, so I'm clear on what college-age girls look like.  They look like the children of dudes 40 and up.

Actually yes.  Sonesta when they were in Orlando.  In fact they used Disney rules for men, with no hair longer than the back collar, and women must of had to wear pony tails.  No beards even, and its still common for most restaurants and hotels on that one.  Heck Disney just started allowing men to have mustaches.

Then the company that prepares the food for Continental Airlines, made me wear a hairnet, and a mask, and even men with short hair or military haircuts had to wear hairnets.  This was back in 2005 as Continental Airlines is no longer a carrier since United merged into them, and I do not think any airlines serves food anymore except maybe first class.

Must be a local thing down in Florida.  The rules are apparently different here in the Midwest.  I've seen plenty of desk clerks with beards and mustaches at hotels.

Most of the guys that hang out in places like that are going through mid life crisis and the girls love to hang out with them because they over tip.  When I was in my twenties, I could never get a girl in those places to ask me how my day was, as they were always busy talking to the older guys in their 40's and so.

Now that I am 50, I see why the girls are that way.  Because its an alternate realm to their boyfriends close to their age at home are still immature, but these us older guys are more mature and understanding.  To them their work is an escape from reality just as most guys make it that when they go to happy hour and watch sports.
