You should at least drive up to Mt. Fuji (or whatever it's called now) for the view of the 87/287/17 interchange.

There's a couple of severed roads on Houvenkopf Mountain.

It would also time nicely with the exit 131 reconfiguration when/if it ever happens.

If you hadn't already seen the thread, the Tuxedo meet is now officially in the works.

I am still aiming for a time frame from April to June for a 2016 Central PA road meet, spotlight on the Mt Rose AVE interchange in my home town of York, PA  (also where we would meet for lunch) also check out construction in Harrisburg and maybe the "goat path" in Lancaster County. Also this could even extend north toward State Collage to check out US 22/322 in the Lewistown Narrows and possible construction of extending the 4-lane 322 in the Potters Mills area. Below is a link to the I-83 improvement project, construction should be starting this spring and by next spring should be ramped up to where it will be well worth checking out-

http://www.i-83exit18.com/documents/I-83Exit18PublicMeetingHandout.pdf

I would love to attend this as I am also originally from York (and my family owned the business that built Haines Acres, which Mt. Rose Ave. borders on the south).  Have been following the I-83 interchange progress, saw the updated article linked to above in yesterday's York Daily Record.  Let the games begin!

Jason, didn't you post on the state-ends.com web page?  I really enjoyed that site as it pertains to PA.
Yes, I was a contirbuter to Adam Prince's PA highway ends site 15 years ago, my pics are also on other sites and my personal facebook page. Small world, that is cool that your family owned the business that spawned on of Yorks biggest suburbs :-) I get up to York a few times year, will be going up there in 2 weeks. I am planning for around this time next year for my meet.

Holy Hannah, I will be in York about that time, also!!  Spending two days on my way down to my 40th Duke reunion.

Right now I'm thinking about when I want to do the Capital District meet.  I currently have a few potential ideas in my head:
-1 day meet on April 3, similar to how the Hampton Roads and Delmarva meets were paired up last year
-1-2 day meet the following week, close enough that people could conceivably make a vacation out of them but not in the same weekend
-1-2 day meet late spring/summer as originally planned
-1-2 day meet in the fall, putting the two NY meets on opposite ends of the calendar

Just curious to hear people's thoughts right now.  I believe I can, in fact, grab enough stuff in the four counties to make a two day meet.  One day would be tighter but probably doable.  I may revise the potential dates once I get more information on the schedule for the reconfiguration of I-890 exit 4.

I wouldn't mind attending, but it would depend on what other meets I decide to attend next year, along with other personal trips I may be taking.

I'm not sure I could do the two meets in a week thing like I did this year. I would probably be more interested in the Spring/Summer meet or the fall meet, depending on the month.

Do we need to wear tuxedos?
Indubitably. Bonus points for a top hat and a suit jacket with tails.

I happen to own a top hat, walking stick, gloves, silk scarf and a pair of patent leather dress shoes... now to rent a set of tails...

I'm pondering a NE Wisconsin construction progress meet for mid-spring to mid-summer, 2016.  Included would be checking up on the progress on I-41/US 10/WI 441 in the Appleton area, I-41/43 in the Green Bay area and the new WI 96 Fox River bridge in Wrightstown (a very interesting new structure, much more so than I was expecting when I recently checked it out).

I vote for option #4. This would hopefully maximize the number of people who could attend at least one New York meet, and fall in New York sounds like fun.

I'm looking at one in Cincinnati for spring. If I do, sites would include I-275 at OH 32; I-71 in the Uptown area of Cincinnati where an interchange is being constructed and I-75 at Hopple Street. Also, there is the new SPUI at KY 18 and KY 237, and I'd like to show where a new Double Crossover Diamond Interchange is probably going to be built at Mount Zion Road and I-75, both of those last two in Boone County.

There's also supposed to be a DDI at KY 338 and I-75. I'm a bit surprised that there's a need for DDIs at both of those locations, unless traffic has picked up significantly on KY 537 and kY 338.

Also, the SPUI -- which route is the through route and which route has the stoplights? Again, I don't really see the need for this. The one time I can remember driving through there, it was a typical signalized intersection and I didn't see any problems that would require spending millions to build a grade-separated interchange.

I have been toying with the idea of a Corridor H/Western Maryland meet in 2016 sometime, probably late spring or summer, given the high elevations (by Eastern standards) involved.

Starting in Winchester, Va. or Moorefield, W.Va.

Some possible stops (strawman list) would include:

  • (possibly) construction around the south junction of Va. 37 and I-81;
  • (possibly) construction of a replacement for the Va. 624 Morgans Ford low-water bridge over the Shenandoah River in Warren County;
  • At least three stops on eastern Corridor H:
    • Two scenic views (the best may be on the eastbound side between W.Va. 42 and W.Va. 93 on the Allegheny Front range itself);
    • Grassy Ridge Road over Corridor H (east of the Mount Storm Generating Station);
    • The newest section of Corridor H between Bismarck and Davis;
  • The "racetrack" that never became Corridor H along U.S. 33 east of Elkins;
  • A short section of western Corridor H;
  • Construction of Corridor H between Kerens and Parsons;
  • Sheetz stop in Parsons, W.Va.;
  • The source of the Potomac River at the Fairfax Stone;
  • The longest, meanest mountain descent in Maryland, Md. 135 from Altamont to Luke; and
  • The privately-owned Oldtown, Maryland low-water toll bridge over the Potomac River between Oldtown and Green Spring, W.Va.

I have been toying with the idea of a Corridor H/Western Maryland meet in 2025 sometime, probably late spring or summer, given the high elevations (by Eastern standards) involved.
  • Construction of Corridor H between Kerens and Parsons;

Fixed the year for you.  :bigass:

Seriously, although I have seen/done much of this route, this would be a fun meet, and probably one of the most rural -- more rural, probably, than my Pikeville meets.

In all seriousness, WVDOT/WVDOH say they will let a contract in 2016 to extend the western section of Corridor H north (roughly parallel to U.S. 219) to an interim terminus someplace near the Randolph County/Tucker County border, so perhaps there will be some progress to be seen?

2025 (or later) is probably about right for the section between Parsons and Davis!  Wonder if the environmentalists (some of which are from the D.C. area) will try again to stop it?

Your Pikeville meet was great.

I'd definitely be interested in a Corridor H meet. It's something I've been wanting to check out for years now.

Next year's meet calendar is definitely filling in.  Of the list I hope to attend:
-Albany/Capital District Meets
-Tuxedo Meet
-Central PA Meet (http://roadsideamericainc.com/)
-Toronto Meet
-Halifax Meet
-Corridor H Meet
-Cincinatti Meet

All but the first two require at least two nights in a hotel.  Hope my finances can handle that!

A little young, but I'm thinking of a Chambersburg road meet. There's a ton of faded signs, embossed button copy, and so much more. At the very least, maybe July? I can probably pick the stops, but somebody else hosts and promotes.

Embossed button copy? No. "Embossed" means the letters are punched into the sign. There are some embossed signs with cats' eyes or other glass reflectors (Massachusetts still has diamond curve/side street signs like this), but Stimsonite button copy is only applied to letters, numerals, and symbols that are then affixed to the sign separately.

East coast bias anyone? :-P :awesomeface:

A meet is planned for Duluth, MN and St Louis will surface again as well.  There might or might not be something in Northern IL, but that's just my best "un"-educated guess (No I'm not organizing it).

I'm giving serious thought to a Northern Illinois meet.  Probably around the southeast side of Chicago, spilling into Northwest Indiana.  I'm still trying to figure out a good restaurant location where we can have free parking.  Horseshoe Casino keeps popping up as an idea (Hammond, Indiana).  Sights to see:

Chicago Skyway, toll plaza, bridge, McDonald's in the median.
Dan Ryan Expressway (probably at 63rd Street).
95th Street Bridge (the one the Blues Brothers jumped).
New South Lake Shore Drive.
Cline Avenue, the area that collapsed.

I'm thinking sometime in May of 2016, but it's flexible so I don't conflict with other meets.

I would be up for a corridor H road meet, especailly if I am in central PA visiting family around that time. Winchester would be a good starting point in terms of restaurant options for lunch.

My only concern about Winchester is its location relative to much of the things to see along Corridor H to the west.  This is potentially a lot of driving in terms of distance at between 200 and 300 miles (but over a highway system that is normally uncongested).

I will be researching this in a little more detail.  Plenty of time until 2016.
