Anyone else unusually good at remembering dates?

Is there anyone else here who is strikingly good at remembering the dates of relatively minor events that they experienced in their lifetimes, what they were doing on a specific day, or very minor details of very minor events?

I remember exactly what I did on July 17, 1982, for instance, though I was only going on 9 years old. I remember it was a Saturday, and we went swimming at the local lake. Also, I remember my parents had the radio on at home that day, and I remember hearing "Still Crazy After All These Years" by Paul Simon on YES 95 (a local station at the time).

I'm also good at remembering what songs were popular at a specific time in the '80s or early '90s. I was on a road trip with my brother last year, and he was listening to the top 40 countdown from that week in 1988. I said the Scarlett & Black song that everyone has forgotten about (along with a bunch of other songs) would probably be in the top 40, and sure enough, it was.

Not me.  By a long shot.

I can tell you when I had my appendectomy...because it was on my birthday!  But even then I can't remember the year...which was about 6 or so years ago.

I'm usually pretty good with certain things, especially if it pertains to something that happened in my life where something important happened in the sports or music world on that date.  I always joke about the day of my gallbladder surgery.  It was the day in '09 that the Yankees clinched the World Series, so I had secondary surgery that night where they ripped out my heart and turned over my stomach.
Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

Absolutely! My short term memory is horrible...but my long term is like a bear trap! Example:

Thursday, June 3, 1982 was my first-ever visit to Boston. It was also my first time in any major American city. I was with my fifth grade class that day (I'm from central Connecticut). We visited the New England Aquarium and the Children's Museum.

Friday to Sunday, August 25 to 27, 1989 was the most significant trip of my life up to that point. Me and my brother were on a Peter Pan 3-day escorted tour to Washington, DC. On that trip alone, I added New York City, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Baltimore, Washington, DC and Virginia. It was my first time on both the George Washington and Delaware Memorial Bridges. We stayed in the Rosslyn section of Arlington, VA, at a Best Western hotel, close to the Key Bridge. It was a Holiday Inn by the time I visited that same neighborhood in 2004. I even managed to stay overnight in the same hotel on May 29/30, 2015...but on the non-Potomac side of the place!

Other examples which aren't quite road related? Hmmmm...

I moved to southern Maine on Labor Day 1985. CBS channel 13 of Portland was airing the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. I moved back from southern Maine on Saturday, June 20, 1987.

Last, but certainly not least? I was born on a Wednesday. :)

^^ I was also born on Wednesday... the one before Easter, so I say I have two birthdays :sombrero:.

I remember certain things. For example, all the times I met the Pearson syndrome case I managed to befriend back in 2013/14 and the things that happened, like when he asked me several times 'what's this?' (referring to my backpack), the million euro question (he asked me if I went to hospital), and best one: he was asked for his name... and he answered with mine's. Not your average 2 year old child (the age he was back then), he was way nicer than most children.

I do not have any particular tendency to remember dates more than any ordinary person would.

But I do have a knack for remembering a lot of details about things. I remember the date I attended my first professional baseball game (August 10, 1994 - Yankees vs. Orioles). I remember what song was on the radio as we were driving there at the point where we first entered a road I had never been on before (the song was Tuff Enough by The Fabulous Thunderbirds, the road was Bruckner Blvd under the Bruckner Interchange). I also remember the address of the store in Connecticut where we purchased the tickets, a store which I had never set foot in before and have not set foot in since (the building still exists, but the store is no longer a brick and mortar ticket retailer - thanks, internet, for making those obsolete).

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

I'm not sure I would say quite that good, but I can a lot of times walk events back and have a good idea the date they occurred.

I also find it interesting that my mother, father, wife and I all were born on a Tuesday.

I can remember certain dates but not other events that seem easier.  I can vividly remember events from High School, but not in college for instance.

For some reason, I can remember my 1st grade gym teacher's license plate number - but not what kind of car he had.

It's called "hyperthymesia" or more loosely referred to as "total recall." I don't remember dates but I do remember most everything from about age 2 and on. It's kind of annoying being near 40 and still dwelling on things that happened in kindergarten. Although, it's pretty funny when I tell my mother things about my early childhood that she had no idea why I did them - because I couldn't form proper sentences nor had the full understanding of what was even going on.

Ha, like my first day of kindergarten when the teacher said it was nap time, and she told us all to put our heads down - but I didn't know what this meant seeing as I didn't go to pre-school (which I was very aware of). So at first I looked around to see what everyone else was doing but then I decided to be a total smart-ass and just smack my forehead on the desk and sit like that with my arms at my side. Miss Nicandri was not pleased with me.

But why do I even remember this crap? It's so pointless. Because now I just remembered in 1st grade when my childhood turned to shit because I started to read a book out loud when Miss Elnicky told us to grab a book off the rack and read it. This angered pretty much every kid in my class because I was seen as a show-off (I didn't know not everyone could read!) But didn't matter, kids are cruel, and from that point on I was bullied all my way through to high school when I started lashing out and getting into fights. I dropped out shortly after that.

None of this is worth remembering - but of course I do - but at the same time, I attribute my insane memory to the reason why I'm able to master most anything I have an interest in, because I remember every seemingly pointless thing about it.

I remember a lot of minor TV and radio stuff. I think it's because it rains and snows a lot around here, so there's nothing to do except watch TV and listen to the radio.

I remember on 'The Price Is Right' where 4 contestants would bid on prizes, the number displays used to have a different look. Someone on Facebook said that change would have been made when I was only 2, but I remember the old displays. I must have been in the living room a lot when my parents watched the show. I also remember the Dowgard commercial that aired when I was only 3.

My parents say I learned how to read when I was 2 or 3, but I remember not being able to read road signs (especially the words "SPEED LIMIT"). I do remember we went on a trip to visit relatives in Pennsylvania just before I turned 3, and being awed by the fact that there was an Interstate 70, so I must have known about the local Interstates already.

Yeah that brought back some memories of being amazed that my Gram could remember how to get to all these different places just by all the signs over the "shtreet" and I remember asking her about it, but I don't remember being able to read the signs, so had to be around that same age as well. That was a good memory. I'd like to dig up some more of those.

I thought this thread would be about things like signing of the Magna Carta, the Battle of Hastings, the Spanish Armada ...

I still remember the date of the Eagle WI tornado June 21, 2010 a date we all will never forget.

KEVIN_224

Sounds like what Windsor Locks, CT went through on October 3, 1979! Portions of the Bradley Air Museum (close to the airport with that name) were destroyed. We were at the southern edge of that big super cell where I lived. I was pulled out of second grade early by mom that day. I even remember the rain stopping by about 3:10 PM!

bandit957

I remember one day in the spring of 1977 - months before I turned 4 - when we found a bunny in the yard and brang it inside where the dog played with it, and later there was a tornado and everyone in the whole neighborhood stood along the street and watched it.

I'm crap at the day I was exactly born (which was a Thursday, after looking it up), but normally things more or less fall together. I remember all the news of Hurricane Katrina in late August of 2005 (I think August 29th). That's because it was the middle of summer, there's no rain predicted for that day, yet it's strangely windy...I crawled over to the TV and it turns out that Hurricane Katrina hit, and it got way more windy than yesterday. I was living in Lumberton, NC at the time, and usually it's not windy in the summer.

I was a little young to remember Windsor Locks (just under 4), but I remember the day that the tornadoes hit Litchfield and Hamden, CT.  It was July 10, 1989.  I remember because I was at a Grateful Dead show at Giants Stadium on the field filled by about 4" of water and lightning striking all around.  They were telling us to get off the field during the set break because there were funnel clouds and lightning around.  I watch the YouTube video of that act and marvel how I survived.

Go to roughly the 60:25 mark (1 hour 25 seconds). Bring back any memories?

I'm really good at remembering numbers, if I want to.  So I'll remember a date really well, so long as a translate it to MM/DD/YY format
Avatar is the last interesting highway I clinched.
