TULSA, Oklahoma - There is a traffic sign directing travelers leaving Tulsa International Airport to Interstate 75, but the problem is, that highway runs from Michigan to Florida, not through Oklahoma.

Tulsa airport spokesperson Alexis Higgins says that sign has been there for several months.

There is a Highway 75 in Tulsa, which runs north and south and is located just west of Tulsa International Airport..

Higgins says they plan on changing the I-75 sign back to US-75 in the near future.
When you come to a fork in the road... TAKE IT.

At least the layout is better than most in Oklahoma, Home of Fugly Signage.

Maybe the US 75 corridor should have an Interstate designation. If anyone is interested, put up some potential numbers in Fictional Highways.

Tulsa to Henryetta, make it I-340 ;)

Oh my god. I mean, really OH MY GOD!

That sign layout so absolutely SUCKS!!!!!!
And this is coming from someone who has been designing commercial signs for a living for over 23 years. I don't think I've ever seen Interstate highway shields so badly composed in all my life. Those are just terrible. The designer and sign company responsible for that example of eye pollution should be fired, and maybe even executed. Even the OK State Highway 11 signs really suck. It's clearly an example of home-grown signage made by someone who didn't care the slightest about highway sign design standards.  The I-75 thing to me is actually minor compared to all the other things so tremendously wrong with that sign layout.

I hope I never run across the person who made this sign layout, because there is actually some reasonable chance that could happen. My company is a member of the Oklahoma Sign Association and the Tri-State Sign Association (a group for sign companies from Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma). We usually have our annual convention and other meetings in Joplin at Downstream Casino. I could see myself punching the designer of this bad highway sign squarely in the face. The layout is so bad it makes me ashamed of my work occupation.

Well, there's always I-45... one of the interstates that should be extended anyway.

Yeah, it's a "real long" walk. The casino-hotel parking lot is in Kansas, the building is in Oklahoma and the roundabout and street entrance to the resort is in Missouri.

No, that layout really is one of the worst I've seen in Oklahoma, and I've seen quite a few face-palm quality examples of bad highway signs here.

The only thing positive I can say about the sign is the "designer" at least used a weight of Series Gothic, rather than vomit some form of Arial or Helvetica up there. The down arrows look wrong. The cardinal directions don't have a large capital, as required by current MUTCD standards. The cardinal directions are not supposed to be positioned under the highway shield; they go above the route marker or to the left of it. The layout has terrible use of white space. That's a fairly simple sign layout, yet the designer found a way to goof up on almost every element in the layout. The background and border are the only things that look acceptable.

I think US-75 should be upgraded to Interstate standards between Henryetta and Tulsa. But it would be tricky to accomplish. Okmulgee would have to be bypassed; its OK Loop 56 road is already too blocked-in with development to expand. A whole new alignment would be required, probably to the West of town. The South side of Tulsa is also a tricky situation; some properties in the Glenpool area are built too close to the road. New frontage roads would eat up some parking lots and maybe even a few buildings.

If I-45 could be extended to Big Cabin along US-69 an Interstate upgraded US-75 could be an "I-445" (I-45 to I-44). That might be even better than an I-340.
