Two from Pennsylvania:

The latter just has every possible sign attached to it, it's only three shields.

Bessemer, Alabama has a few similar to this:

That first one, those streetlight masts reeeeeaaly stick their necks out   while that other one, I'm surprised there isn't garage sale (my grandpa used to call them 'garbage sales'  :-D ) or lost animal signs on it for good measure.  Wow, that's a bit to take in.

That Chester signage is more than clumsy, and not quite close enough to the intersection, plus aren't those SC shields in need of some kerning?  The other one, looks like somebody took some signs/shields and hung them on a clothesline to dry.

TOO much duplication!  If they're going to have the overheads, redo the sign (so it'll at least look like a MUTCD/freeway/ish setup) and make the gantry thicker/stronger.  If they're going to have eye-level posts, why have the overheads (or vice versa)?

I thought about it, but someone like NE2 would agree with the logic of the engineer who posted these signs that he wanted both lanes to have equal access to viewing.

As far as the overheads go, Dothan has them at all US route junctions on the Ross Clark Circle.   It seems the DOT wants the main US routes to be posted only on the overheads, but puts the no so important, but needed, routes on the ground mounts.  Plus now they added AL 210 the hidden route number for the Circle to be visible which is not needed as all parts of the beltway have a US route number assigned to it, hence US 431 ending at US 231 on the south side of the city.

The "clothesline" of signage is rather common in Georgia.

Just used this thread as an excuse to post two types of routes with the same number, all with different cardinal directions.

roadman65

Yes and you will see ground mount shields next to them as well.  GA will most likely place only the US routes above and post all the routes below especially the state route numbers that are coextensive with the GA US Routes.

This used to have six.  US 421 (SOUTH) was routed this way at one time before being re-routed over I-73 and I-85.
I don't need a GPS.  I AM the GPS! (for family and friends)

Typical for Alabama; they don't use the '61 specs on three-digit US Routes, but '70 spec for 2dus is becoming more common. The wide state route shield design can vary wildly throughout the state.
