2015 Meets
« on: October 21, 2014, 10:30:58 AM »

Hi all,

Just wanted to get an idea for what meets you all are planning for 2015 since I've heard some rumblings in various threads and on chat.

I'm looking to host a two-day Baltimore and Eastern Shore Maryland meet in either February or the beginning of March.

I'd love to come to a two-day Maryland meet. My Spring break is between March 2-16 which I will more than likely be home in PA for, so I'd definitely be able to attend if the meet takes place during this time.

I'd definitely be looking at the two day Maryland meet as well.

I'm planning to host a Utica/Rome meet around June.

I'm giving some thought to doing a western Kentucky meet that would focus on I-69 conversion and the construction of the new US 68/KY 80 bridge across Kentucky Lake.

A Louisville bridges meet is also do-able.

Both of these are concepts and I have no firm plans for them; they are merely possibilities.

I will probably do a Pikeville encore once the new US 460 routing is opened, and as work progresses on the other sections that are under construction. The new section of road is scheduled to be ceremonially opened on Dec. 17. I don't know when it will actually open to traffic, but I suspect it'll be sometime around that date.

The recent Roads Scholar Summit in Tulsa was cool. It might be enough to last me for a while.

I was wondering about any meets that would be happening before the Denver meet in 2015. I'd be up for the Maryland meet for sure. I really want to come and visit some people in the area, too (you know who you are). :)

I hope that the I-22/65 interchange is actually finished next year. Right now the completion date is October 2015. If that holds, then I plan on doing a second Birmingham meet to tour the new interchange as well as the Birmingham Northern Beltline construction around late October or early November 2015. However, if the completion date slips again, like it has many times already, then the date of that meet will slip with it.

Any updates on a potential NW Arkansas Meet? I'd be interested in that one. Of course, there is also the UP Meet for next Labor Day.

Attendees to the Merritt Parkway and Quebec City meets may know that I am considering hosting a meet in Portland, Maine next year.  I'm also looking into the possibility of a new Tappan Zee Bridge meet.

The completion date for the 5.8 mile section of Future I-49 at Chaffee Crossing (if that were to somehow be incorporated into a NWA meet) has also gradually slipped, with IDriveArkansas now projecting an "Early 2015" completion date; however, I do believe that they are close.......

Ooh... I forgot about NW Arkansas. I am still interested in attending that one. It's probably more realistic for me to attend that than Denver, but we'll see.

I'm looking at a Tappan Zee meet centered around a tour. Obviously, setting up a tour will be the major factor in determining when that happens.

w00t! March 7-8 or 14-15 are my ideal dates for hosting. The Saturday would be Baltimore and the Sunday on the Eastern Shore (just over the Bay Bridge). It's still way too far out to decide on a precise weekend, though.

Would you plan the meet in December before or after Christmas, or in January?

It would definitely be after Christmas. Found out Friday that the road will officially open on Dec. 17 as well, after the dedication ceremony.

I have plans for a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre meet in March 2015. Likely date is March 21, but we'll see.

I plan on doing a Central Pennsylvania meet around April 2016, Mt Rose AVE interchange project on I-83 and several other small projects in the area will start ramping up around that time. That is the only meet I am planning on doing for sure in the next 18 months. As for attending meets, I am still eyeing up Denver depending on the final date for that, HB if you do anything next year, as long as there is no toy show I should be good to go, any meets in late March early April I may not be able to make with 2 BIG toy show\ conventions around that time, one in Lexington, KY the other is the spring Steel City Con show.

I have no clue what meets I will be attending or hosting.

I am kicking the idea of a Madison area meet around, but I'm floating other things non-roads things around that will change whether or not I do anything.

Madison would be awesome, and I'd try my best to go! Just keep in mind that the Upper Peninsula meet will be in September. I haven't heard of any other Great Lakes meets in 2015 yet.

But speaking of which... hasn't Brandon been floating an Indiana meet?

He's floating an idea for the new Lake Shore Drive area.  If Madison happens it will be likely in April.  I want to get some of the old relics before they go away due to the start of the Verona Rd SPUI construction.

I'd strongly consider attending a Madison meet. I haven't spent any time in Madison since October 2004, and I'd love to go back.

I want to do another Cincinnati meet. The Sixth Street Viaduct is done or very nearly so, but work is progressing on a SPUI in the Kentucky suburbs not far from my home; ODOT is building a new interchange at Martin Luther King Drive and I-71; there is work still being done on I-75 between Norwood and the Western Hills Viaduct; and there is reconstruction happening on the east side at I-275 and Ohio State Route 32. I'm not sure when I will have time to do it, but I'd like to.

I'm toying with the idea of hosting my first meet next year.  It would probably be a Long Island meet.  I'm thinking in the fall, since I think there's a few others already planned for the spring and I was figuring on including a Jones Beach stop where parking is impossible (and expensive) during the summer.

I have a couple of ideas that I can fit in and around other people's meets.

1. SE Chicago/NW Indiana (including the new part of LSD).
2. South Bend/Elkhart.

Have they started on the two DDIs that are going to be built north of the I-71 split? (I think at the KY 338 and KY 536 exits).

Not yet. Far as I know it's still in the planning stages, though I can't access any information on it right now for whatever reason. And yes, those are exactly the locations you were thinking of. There was talk in 2012 of starting it next year -- if the project does get underway it could certainly be added to any meet itinerary.
