I was looking at the TxDOT scheduled contracts for FY 2013 (which started this month), and there is $816 million in work on US 290 scheduled for award in the next 7 months. Until recently most of this work was unfunded with no projected date for completion.

A $103 million bid for the expansion at Beltway 8/Sam Houston tollway was opened earlier this month

The scheduled contracts will expand the freeway from Loop 610 to Telge Road west of SH6/FM 1960, and complete the mega-interchange at IH 610

$155 million in work is already in progress on the US 290/IH 610 interchange

This is quite good news, especially the "bid" part, since it means plans will be available for review.  There is in fact a US 290 contract currently advertised as part of the October letting (Harris 0271-14-228), which covers part of the IH 610/US 290 interchange.

I guess this doesn't count anything along the SH99 project which looks like ramps being built with room for expansion of the main lanes. Might be under different funding, but as it stands, looks like almost a billion dollars to be spent on this very, very busy highway. No wonder some people want to turn it into an Interstate.

Correct, the work at the Grand Parkway is separate from the US 290 improvement project. The next section of the Grand Parkway, from US 290 to IH 45N (section F), should move forward to construction in about 1-2 years, so more ramps will be built at the intersection with US 290.
