There are currently two places that you will find traffic signals along the Avenue of the Saints. Hannibal, MO is planning for a west bypass, to connect where US 24 meets US 36/Future I-72 and the current diamond is planned to be upgraded to a full cloverleaf.  :spin: Here is the project: http://www.modot.org/northeast/HannibalBypass.htm

So what about the Waterloo and Cedar Falls, IA section after I-380 ends .....? Looks like an easy upgrade for US 218 to become a freeway where the at grades currently are. And what is wrong with IaDOT not upgrading the US 20/IA 27 interchange from a diamond when the Avenue of the Saints turns north there .....? Bad IaDOT!  :pan:

So the big question is if IaDOT is going to upgrade this section or if this area will become infamous for having the only traffic signals along the Avenue of the Saints .....?

It looks like there is a study in place to get rid of the lights in Cedar Falls:

Aside from the Viking Road interchange (it looks like they're going to try to squeeze in an interchange amid the development that intersection has seen in the last ten years) that is programmed for 2017, none of this is funded yet.

There are also plans to get rid of all intersections between Waverly and Cedar Falls:

The interchange with C57 is programmed for completion in 2016.

Hopefully IaDOT doesn't select the 5 ramp parclo option for US 20 at IA 27/58 ..... The 3Y option looks best IMO since the local traffic headed for south of US 20 is separated from the Ave of the Saints traffic .....

Not a whole lot of through traffic to begin with, so there's not much need/demand for a lot of flyovers.  One flyover (SB 27 to EB 20) should be more than adequate.  A 3Y would be overkill.

Bumping this up...

There was a public meeting back on May 6 with updates on this project. The presentations were posted on the city of Cedar Falls' website.

The Greenhill and Viking Road interchange alternatives have been narrowed down to two, both of which involve SPUI's. They've also narrowed the US 20/Ridgeway alternatives to two -- a system interchange and keeping the existing layout but adding additional turn lanes. Per the presentation notes, it is due to the desire to keep IA 27/58 connected to Ridgeway Avenue.

Looks like your url missed a single character, thus taking us to the building inspector's page. ;)

I found it somewhat humorous that the presentation suggests that there are "Many (SPUIs) in the Rochester, MN area".  In reality, there's only one in Rochester:  US 52 at 19th St NW.

Bumping this thread after reading this: Highway 58 to go under Viking Road

This article includes the latest improvements proposal document. Looks like a pair of SPUIs will be going in at Greenhill and Viking Roads and a system interchange is the preferred alternate for the interchange at US 20.
