AZ - Gateway freeway gets state OK

Work on the next piece of the Southeast Valley's (Phoenix/Mesa, AZ) freeway system will begin next year, four years earlier than had been scheduled because of a vote this month by the Arizona state Transportation Board.  Mesa has been pushing to accelerate construction of the Gateway Freeway (AZ 24), but this vote seals the deal.

Is Apache Junction the next boomtown in this area? So far it seemed to miss out on all the suburban development in the area like Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, etc.

That was previously Arizona 802.  I wonder if AzDOT will renumber Arizona 801.

BTW, I thought that any numbers below 50 (excluding the proposed Arizona 48 and Arizona's Interstate) would be reserved for Indian Routes.

Actually, those are reserved for the same reason South Korea reserves numbers 70 through 99 ... reunification with Utah  :)

Really? Drat, and not drat. I've been wanting to go down to Kanab for the longest time to see how Utah would sign US-89A, but now I have no need to. Still, UDOT needs to get its act together.

According to the Wikipedia page on 'Metropolitan Phoenix Freeways', the number for AZ 801 might be used for planning purposes and the signed route might be AZ 30.

Not sure about SR 48, but SR 51 in its early planning statges was speculated to be I-510.  Before the 1985 plan, it was SR 510.

Really? Drat, and not drat. I've been wanting to go down to Kanab for the longest time to see how Utah would sign US-89A, but now I have no need to. Still, UDOT needs to get its act together.

Well, after emailing them, they said with all the signing (hanging signs, those "BGS's" on poles, etc.) that this is going to be a big resigning procedure...they want to get it all done at once.  Mind you, that was about 3 months ago, but still...

All the more reason to try to get either US-64 or US-160 extended/rerouted via AZ-98/US-89/89A/AZ-389/UT-59/UT-9 to I-15. :P

If Arizona is willing to go low yet doesn't like the US-64 or US-160 idea, then a MSR-3 wouldn't be that far-fetched of an idea (if we don't have a MSR-59 or 389).

However, it's interesting yet odd that Arizona is using a number lower than 50.

AZ 801 (AZ 85 Buckeye to Loop 202 Laveen/Phoenix(55th Avenue)) > AZ 185 Gila Freeway
AZ 802 Gateway Freeway (Loop 202 Mesa to US 60 Gold Canyon> AZ 360
