James Garner, actor where we remember him in Maverick, Rockford Files, movies like the Great Escape passed away last week-end at the age of 86.

Always remember him as the man driving the Gold Firebird and living in that dumpy trailer on the Pacific Ocean as well as always getting beat up, stiffed by his clients, and hated by everyone except his dad and his clients.

He will be missed though.

Also on a FB page some people commented on the US 101 Ventura sign on the openers of The Rockford Files.   It had to be someone here, as they seemed knowledgeable of where that particular sign was.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

Zane Cooper: Oh, I suppose somebody ought to say something nice about the deceased.

Ah, the open skies, wind at my back, warm sun on my... wait, where the hell am I?!
As a matter of fact, I do own the road.

"Pete, do you ever get tired of the driving?"

"No."

Garner was born in Norman, and so has some stuff in downtown named after him. There is a James Garner Avenue paralleling the railroad tracks (I believe it was formerly Front Street), and there are signs as you enter downtown designating it as the James Garner Corridor: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=norman+ok&ll=35.218943,-97.448087&spn=0.035796,0.059652&oe=utf-8&hnear=Norman,+Cleveland+County,+Oklahoma&t=h&z=15&layer=c&cbll=35.218955,-97.448029&panoid=uC6ofIrix1Uq57QYTlbB9A&cbp=12,85.05,,0,-2.1

Norman also has a statue of Mr Garner dressed as Bret Maverick.

A class act from all that I've read. I wonder how many Pontiac Firebirds that "Jim Rockford" sold to people?

I remember he was also a Mazda spokesman back in the mid-1980s.

I still love watching the Rockford Files on MeTV when it's on. The theme song by Mike Post might be my favorite television theme of all time.

That was Post's first theme released as a Top 40 single and got him a Grammy and a lot more work :)
