Most likely so after awhile seeing the same safety message you kind of tune it out.

Man ADOT has some crafty messages I wished we got half those here..

Seems like it is newer thing.  I don't remember the VMS signs having anything but the generic messages you'd expect to see during the entire duration of when I lived in Arizona.  They actually probably do a good job grabbing attention because of how silly or corny they get.

For years ADOT has had its "DRIVE HAMMERED GET NAILED" message used during major holidays, however, in 2015 ADOT began to get a little more creative with its messages, starting with the "DRINKING & DRIVING GO TOGETHER LIKE PEAS AND GUAC" message used in Thanksgiving 2015.

I didn't post them here, but here are the messages that ADOT used during the days leading up to Christmas and New Years:

December 22, 2016:
QuoteAGGRESSIVE DRIVERS
BELONG ON ISLAND
OF MISFIT TOYS

December 23, 2016:
Quote
SEAT BELTS:
GIFTS THAT GIVE
THE ENTIRE YEAR

December 24, 2016:
QuoteNO SPEEDING IN THE
7 LEVELS OF THE
CANDY CANE FOREST

December 25, 2016:
QuoteYES ARIZONA THERE
IS A SEATBELT LAW
BUCKLE UP

December 30, 2016:
QuoteWE'VE GOT A FEVER
& THE ONLY CURE IS
SOBER DRIVERS

December 31, 2016:
QuoteJUST BUZZED?
NICE TRY,
THAT'S A DUI

January 1, 2017:
QuoteNEW YEAR
NEW YOU
USE YOUR BLINKER

Nice, I never thought I would see a Christopher Walken reference on a VMS.  :-D

And here is today's Super Bowl themed message:

QuoteFALCONS? PATRIOTS?
WE DON'T CARE
JUST DRIVE SOBER

Oh man I love it ADOT wins hands down!

Or the message I saw last Friday afternoon on I-93 south of Dascomb Road:

QuoteHAVE A               DESIGNATE
SUPER                 A SOBER
TIME                   DRIVER

Then, there was this in Canton (MA):

"And ninety-five is the route you were on.  It was not the speed limit sign."  - Jim Croce (from Speedball Tucker)

Caught this one on I-235 in West Des Moines today. It alternated between that and saying "21 TRAFFIC FATALITIES [IN IOWA] THIS YEAR."

Looks like ADOT is having a contest for safety messages:

QuoteREAL MEN WEAR PINK

DRINK AND DRIVE

Love it!

Mine was:                                                                      YOU'RE NOT IN
                                                                                      LOS ANGELES
                                                                                   USE TURN SIGNAL

I had mentioned in the "Comments" that the third line could have variations ("Get off phone" for example).

At what age do you tell a highway that it's been adopted?

I forgot to post it, but this was ADOT's Valentine's Day message:

QuoteTAKE IT SLOW
ON VALENTINE'S DAY
OBEY SPEED LIMIT

Had to go to the MassDOT District 5 office in Taunton for a meeting today.  This was posted on every CMS panel I saw early this morning between Boston and Taunton, and later in the day between Taunton and Boston:

FIREFIGHTER
JOSEPH
TOSCANO

------------

REST
IN
PEACE

It's sad whenever a firefighter dies in the line of duty, but this is getting out of hand.  Especially when one of the boards coming back from Taunton was in advance of a left lane closure on Route 24 and the other boards were in advance of severely congested (15 mph max) traffic - for late morning - on the Southeast Expressway.

I was thinking Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet." "You know you know you know you know you ain't seen nothin' yet!"

Grammatically incorrect.  Should be "We have done bitches".
