Colorado 65 Rock Slide near Grand Mesa

A massive rock slide Thursday March 6, 2014, closed Colorado 65 in both directions on the north side of Grand Mesa.

The highway will be closed through the weekend while crews work to clear the area, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The alternate route is Interstate 70 Exit 62 (CR 45 1/2) in DeBeque Canyon or Colorado 65 out of Delta, CDOT said.

We won't hear until early next week when reopening might be.

In the case of the CO-65 closure, the detour around the slide isn't as bad in extra distance (about 25 miles) as when US-550 was closed for nearly a month in January between Ouray & Silverton (about 100 miles). 

It will be a PITA for those in Grand Junction who wish to access Powderhorn Ski Resort &/or the Grand Mesa this weekend.
