AR: US-67 upgrades
« on: February 12, 2009, 09:58:06 PM »

The Same kind of Stalling has been going on for the U.S. 67 NE Corridor. Last I saw it was it ended a few Miles past Newport Ar Right around the exit 87 marker, I wonder why that route has taken so long seeing that most of that terrain is uninhabited rice/soybean fields...

Right now, it ends at AR 18, but last I saw, the bridges were finally under construction, but that was 2 years ago. My guess is there are problems with acquiring the ROW, such as farmers refusing to sell out.  There is also a small 4 Lane segment bypassing Hoxie and Walnut Ridge. Right now, all the improvements on 67 are being done in the North Little Rock/Jacksonville area (extra lanes, new bridges, etc).

Also, that would be great to see the US 67 four lane head up that way.  The whole state should have 4 lane access to its capital.

One of the proposed stimulus projects is to work on US 67 north of Newport. Whether or not it gets done is anyone's guess.

Dedication Thursday for four-lane US 67 north of Newport

5:00 AM CDT, October 15, 2009

NEWPORT, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas highway officials have scheduled a dedication ceremony for Thursday for an 18-mile stretch of an improved U.S. 67 north of Newport.

Festivities are set for 9 a.m. at the spot where the four-lane currently ends on the northeast side of Newport.

The new roadway cost $93 million. The 18 miles of new road will carry U.S. 67 to its intersection with Highway 226, from where travelers can cross over into Jonesboro or get back on old U.S. 67 for their journey north toward St. Louis.

This has been a long time coming.

I can't wait until it's tied into the Hoxie/Walnut Ridge bypass, then bypasses Pocahontas, Corning, etc.

Nice road. Was a fun drive if that stretch in AR is redone. Missouri's brought theirs up to almost complete expressway (only one light near I-55 that appears to be ready to be removed when I went through).

Actually, there are two lights near I-55, one at the northern intersection with Rte CC, and one at Meyer Road:

Then there's the intersection at Victoria Road which has flashers to alert of the presence of cross traffic, which I expect to become a full stoplight someday soon:

Got a map of the new US 67 section?
Has AR 367 taken over the old alignment? Are there any new bannered business routes?

I am guessing 367 will assume the old routing to 226 where it will become 67 again.

No Business routes until Hoxie where you have a reverse duplex along 67B and 63B

The corridor is shown under construction in the high-resolution aerial images on the 'Bing' maps website.  Interesting, too, is that tiny completed section at Hoxie/Walnut Ridge, AR.

To my knowledge, just to the north of Walnut Ridge though eventually, they will want to bypass Pocahontas, I'm sure.
