Last wooden drawbridge in Massachusetts granted historic status

Massachusetts’ last wooden drawbridge, located in Chatham on Cape Cod, which was destined for the scrapheap by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, has a new lease on life.

Responding to an appeal from local and national preservation groups, the US Department of the Interior has ruled that Chatham’s Mitchell River Bridge is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
