2011 NBA finals
« on: June 01, 2011, 07:34:02 AM »

The Miami Heat won the first meet of the NBA finals against the Dallas Mavericks.  Looks like Dan Gilbert's curse wasn't powerful enough to go against "The curse of the Crease"

As a Miami Heat fan (yes, ever since they lost their first-ever game against the LA Clippers in 1988...they turned over the ball literally 3 seconds into their first possession on their way to losing by 20 points), it wasn't their best performance last night, but enough to win.

Seriously though, do these games have to start at 9 pm, and end at midnight without overtime? I mean, Dallas is only one hour away, in terms of time zones. And some of us have jobs, and we don't all while away our lives on plastic-assed South Beach.

sorry Miami - insufficient quantity of ball-hogging crunch-time-wilting superstars.  Maybe sign another?

If you were rooting against LeBron... then Dallas has a new "America's Team" :)

At this point, anything I post about Lebron James is going to come off as sour grapes; the situation is an example of why I'd hate to be famous in this age of media. Let's all agree he's going to take a vacation for a bit to forget all of us suckas for a whilst making very easy fiduciary decisions at some resort which has never heard of the word "basketball".

They played very nervously last night, to say the least. Dallas just didn't miss...hats off to them. It's also nice to build a real rivalry.

That said (and you can take it with a grain of salt), is that ESPN is really digging into the fact that the Heat lost more than Dallas won it all. That said, see how lousy the Miami Heat looked back in November, and I would have been hard pressed to claim they're going to The NBA Finals. That said, sometimes the media paints the games as a good-vs-evil story, which people love; look at how the 2007 New England Patriots are viewed in retrospect.

So while I'm not glad we lost, it was nice to be in The Finals in the first (er, second) place. I'm a fan, just not a blowhard; it's just a game, and losing is sometimes part of it. I went to bed stoically and I woke up and went to work the next morning. But I do feel my team isn't done yet...we will be back!
