Here's some more signs from the Perkins Union.

Both of these signs portray when you are entering the Perkins Union from Ohio, which is fully surrounded by. The next two signs will portray what township and city, village, or borough you are entering to.

And finally, there are specialty signs.

The first one involves the National Network. All U.S. highways within the state and any expressway that meets Interstate Standards are automatically part of the National Network. Most townships assign them to all Autoroutes and major streets while others define (mainly by by-laws) which routes are best for trucks.

The next one warns drivers that the underpass that they are traveling may be prone to high water and floods.

Is that on I-390 South at I-590 between the airport and Marketplace Mall? (url=http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=43.109333,-77.608688&spn=0,0.021136&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=43.109382,-77.608578&panoid=6a4iBrFSnnDyAKwLt4eoJg&cbp=12,69.7,,0,-14.29]map link[/url])

And now for something completely different. :sombrero: I decided to see what happens when you apply MUTCD color schemes and Clearview to the signage at my favorite casino. Didn't come out so bad. You can compare it to what's there now, which is shown in the lower left corner of the image.

A gas station in Weedsport built a new building last year, and the new store has highway-themed signs.  Surprisingly, some of them are quite accurate.

Yessir. You'll notice I made a few changes to the signs.

With the I-10 / I-610 / US 290 interchange possibly getting redone (FINALLY!), I figured I'd take a crack at the possible guide signs that would be used. There are already some basic illustrations in the schematics of the interchange (available on my290.com), but I didn't care for them, so I made up some of my own.

The main thing to remember is that on the stretch of 610 between 10 and 290 is that traffic coming from/to 10 and 290 will be separated into their own c/d lanes to help ease the transition between the three freeways.

With the direct ramps for 290 from 10, would the "TO" signage be necessary with the weaving being eliminated?  (This interestingly would also have 290 reconnecting with its parent for the first time in many years.)

Yes, it'd still be necessary, since those "direct ramps" are technically considered C/D roads along I-610.

And my most recent designs for Sacramento, once again an existing interchange (the Oak Park Interchange) but presuming 1964-1982 route designations.

Plus, some experimentation with getting the "glue stain" old sign look going:

How did you make the fence on the top of the overpass railing because I think that looks fantastic and want to add it to my library.

I found a fence clipart image in Google Image search and shrunk it down as a transparency, then cut-and-pasted it repeatedly on top of the overpass.  I can email it to you in a minute or two.

After seeing the fencing added by TheStranger to my overpass graphic, I was inspired to add my version of fencing on an overpass.  After conversing with TheStranger on where he got his image, finding a suitable image on Google and manipulating that image in Photoshop, here's what I came up with...

I couldn't use TheStranger's fence because I'm moving towards making these graphics with transparent backgrounds and I didn't feel like having to use the Magic Wand tool a billion times to take out the purple background in his image.

myosh_tino - Nice job!  Yours looks a lot neater than mine, which was pretty much done in a few minutes.

BigMatt:  Several little tricks -

- for text, I double-layered it where one layer is an outline with no fill, and one is a fill layer of the same text almost placed right on top of the first set of words (but not quite), creating an "embossed" look.  The color choices are designed to be close, but not quite the same as, the background green - simulating different aging patterns for paneling that has not been exposed to the sun.

- for shields, I simply used the slightly darker green on outline edges (and for the interstate shield, fill), then used the spray tool to smudge some details out as necessary.

Another idea that's been in my head for a long time (and now that I have somewhere to let that idea out): street signs on traffic signals.

On the pole where the actual traffic lights are located, there's usually a sign to let you know what street you're at and the block numbers. I was thinking that while at a major highway, why not include the highway? Like such!

The main example is in the upper left. You still have the street name and the block numbers, but in addition to that, you have the actual shield of the numbered highway as well. Just in case you missed it the 9000 other places it's signed. :P

For divided highways, it would obviously only show the block number for the side you're on, then show the other block number as you reach the other half.

For highways that split at an intersection, two signs would be used: one on the left for the street on that side and one on the right for the street on the other side.

Or how about specialty highways, like the Westpark Tollway, which is electronic tolls only. You can color those as well!

Of course, it becomes a bit of a problem when you're at an intersection that splits to streets with REALLY long names, such as the intersection of Beltway 8 and the Fort Bend Toll Road. When abbreviated, it's not so bad, but when you use the LONG name, it's a lot.

Yes, yes. This isn't probably practical in some sense, but hey. We're here just to be creative, right? :)

Dallas uses signs like these on the traffic signal mast arms. I thought it was a TxDOT thing, but I haven't noticed anything in other cities that look like this.

They added the light-up kind on the frontage roads of 10 and 610 after their reconstruction projects, but they are VERY plain. (For example, the I-10 Frontage Road just says "IH-10" and nothing else.)

just put this one together, based on a spec sheet that I have.

I've never seen an example of this shield in existence.  It is 23 3/4 by 27 3/4 inches, and the style dates to 1956.
