The first ever "US Highway field of 68" bracket
« on: March 04, 2012, 09:04:27 PM »

With it being tourney and bracket time again nationally (if you follow basketball at HS or college level). Since other folks like to do silly brackets (super models, Hollywood celebreties, favorite players, etc), I figure I'd do a "silly" bracket for US highways as well.
So if anyone is interested, I'll string out this thread using the poll options to decide which US route warrents being "the best" of the bunch.
One note, those bracket headings with two route numbers are "play-in" games, just like in the NCAA version.

What's the rationale for which routes get selected for this bracket? US 181 is there, but no US 81, tons of 3 digit routes, but some fairly major 2 digits (US 70, US 77) are missing...

I'm not sure, but overall #1 cannot be anything other than one of the following:

23, 25, 25E, 25W, 27, 31, 31E, 31W, 41, 42, 45, 51, 60, 62, 68, 79, 119, 127, 150, 231, 421, 431, 460 or 641.  :bigass:

Well, I think US 13 is rated low at a 9 seed. Sure, it's not as long as some of the rest, but it has the CBBT.

The transporter of US 1's sample stored it in his basement for too long so the results got thrown out.

US 81 had a poor SOS and no quality wins. US 77 had to win its conference, but got upset by US 151. US 70 is going to the NIT.

Oh I recognize this format....i have done it every year since 2002 for anime....how it goes is you match each US Route with the corresponding NCAA team...so when the NCAA team wins, the US Route 'Wins' and moves on...

US 301 was ineligible because of a recruiting violation...it gave VA 2 a Porsche in exchange for using its route from Richmond to Bowling Green.

Will be interesting to see if any schools end up with a seed that corresponds to a highway near that school.  For example, Notre Dame being a #3 seed in the East would correspond to US 20 or a #3 seed in the South would correspond to US 31.  Notre Dame being a #3 seed is very unlikely, so maybe somebody can come up with an example that has a greater probability.

The same thing happened to U.S. 113 awhile ago, but the results were still upheld and it was assessed a 20-mile truncation. . .

52 doesn't officially enter Kentucky. It's maintained by the Mountaineer State. Besides, it's co-signed with 119.

Faulty planning on my part. :banghead: I thought I could poll each game (essentially which road do you "like" more for each game) in one thread (even I wouldn't want 67 different polls threads on the board).
I'm open to any suggestions as to how to play out "this tourney" within one thread.  :hmmm:
