2016/17 construction rebuilt the ramp system joining the west end of the Poplar Street Bridge with Interstate 44. Work added a second lane for the continuation of Interstate 55 southbound. 12/31/23
The ramp along the continuation of Interstate 55 at I-44 previously included a height restriction of 14 foot 6 inches for the Missouri Pacific Railroad bridge. The clearance was subsequently improved to 15 foot 4 inches. 12/31/23
I-44 west and I-55 south elevate along a pair of four lane viaducts from Gratiot Street to ramps with 7th Street at Exit 290 C and Park Avenue. 05/07/18
Exit 290 C departs I-44/55 south for 7th Street at LaSalle Park and the Kosciusko neighborhoods. 7th Street leads north three blocks to Route 100, which begins from below the freeway viaduct and follows Chouteau Avenue west to Midtown and The Gate District. I-44 west and I-55 south partition just beyond the Lafayette Avenue overpass. The freeway expands to five lanes with the addition of lane from 7th Street to Exit 290 A for 12th Street at Gravois Avenue (Route 30 west). 12th Street south from Downtown, and Gravois Avenue southwest from I-44, are historic alignments of both U.S. 66 and City U.S. 66. Gravois Avenue (Route 30) winds southwest through the Soulard, Fox Park and Benton Park West neighborhoods to Chippewa Street, where Historic U.S. 66 turns west to St. Louis Hills and Lindenwood Park. 05/04/12
I-44/55 part ways at a directional T interchange (Left Exit 290 B). The exchange includes ramps to Truman Parkway from the north, which are leftover from the unconstructed Route 755 (North-South Distributor) freeway. I-44 west from I-55 was the final route of U.S. 66 before it was decommissioned in 1985. I-44 reaches Springfield in 208 miles while I-55 follows the Mississippi River 108 miles south to Cape Girardeau. 05/07/18

Ramps from both Tucker Boulevard and I-44 east merge onto Interstate 55 south below the intersection of Gravois Avenue (Route 30 west) and Russell Boulevard. The diamond interchange (Exit 206 C) with Arsenal Street follows in 0.75 miles. 04/13/13
Arsenal Street connects I-55 with Soulard and Benton Park in a half mile. Broadway (old U.S. 67 Alternate) crosses paths with I-55 before Gasconade Street to meet the freeway at Mount Pleasant in 2.5 miles. 04/13/13

One quarter mile out from Exit 200 to Union Road, I-55 continues south to St. George at Reavis Barracks Road and U.S. 50-61-67 (Lindbergh Boulevard) at Green Park. 04/13/13

A slip ramp adds motorists from Lindbergh Boulevard onto I-55 south as Exit 197 separates into a flyover for I-255 north to the Jefferson Barracks Bridge and I-270 west to Sunset Hills and Kirkwood. 04/13/13
