I-89 crosses the Swanton town line just ahead of Exit 20 to VT 207 (Highgate Road). VT 207 constitutes a 13.8 mile route northward to Highgate Falls, Highgate Center and VT 235 in the town of Franklin. U.S. 7 south enters Downtown St. Albans in 2.5 miles. 08/02/07
An 18 inch reassurance marker stood ahead of milepost 117 and the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail underpass. It was replaced during the resigning of I-89 completed by 2012. 08/02/07

Interstate 89 runs south alongside Dorset Street from University Mall to a modified trumpet interchange (Exit 13 / Milepoint Exit 87) with Interstate 189 west. I-189 comprises a short spur linking I-89 with U.S. 7 (Shelburne Road) as it leads south from Burlington to Shelburne. 10/10/14

South from the Burlington metropolitan area, U.S. 7 travels to Vergennes, where VT 22A splits toward the Crown Point Bridge, the Addison County seat of Middlebury, and Rutland. 10/06/14
I-189 opened in 1962 on the same day that I-89 did between Exit 13 and Winooski. The spur ends at U.S. 7 near Queen City Park on the Burlington city line. An unopened extension of the roadway, Champlain Parkway, spurs northwest to Home Avenue. Following environmental and community resistance since the 1970s, construction of the two lane parkway into Downtown finally got underway in 2022. 10/06/14
