Interstate 485 Outer
Exits 65 B is the first of two interchanges for Pineville from the outer loop of Interstate 485. Meeting the freeway ahead is South Boulevard (SR 3998) from Charlotte and Pineville Road (SR 4982) north. This guide sign was removed in 2016. 05/30/05
South Boulevard carried U.S. 521 north to Woodlawn Road / Billy Graham Parkway until 2003. When I-85 opened to traffic, U.S. 521 was relocated onto the beltway between Exit 65 and 61. That overlap was subsequently removed when U.S. 521 was truncated southward. 03/11/22
South from Exit 65 B, Pineville Road becomes Polk Street en route to Downtown Pineville and NC 51 (Main Street). Pineville Road was the alignment of U.S. 521 until 1996, when it was relocated onto I-485. 03/11/22
South Boulevard (SR 3998) constitutes a heavily developed commercial arterial northward 5.29 miles to Woodlawn Boulevard. 03/11/22
NC 51 (Pineville-Matthews Road) converges with Interstate 485 at a six-ramp parclo interchange (Exit 64). 03/11/22
NC 51 travels west from I-485 through Downtown Pineville to S.C. 51 and U.S. 21. 03/11/22
Exit 64 B also serves adjacent Carolina Place Mall, located along the south side of NC 51. 03/11/22
Exit 64 A loops onto NC 51 (Pineville-Matthews Road) northbound ahead of two medical centers and a heavily developed retail area. NC 51 extends east into the town of Matthews. 05/31/21
U.S. 521 begins from Interstate 485 at Exit 6. Following Johnston Road, U.S. 521 heads 3.72 miles south to the South Carolina line. 05/31/21
Exit 61 leaves Interstate 485 eastbound for U.S. 521 (Johnston Road). U.S. 521 travels 177 miles southeast from Charlotte to Georgetown, South Carolina. 05/31/21
Johnston Road continues north from the parclo interchange at Exit 61 to Park Road through suburban south Charlotte. 05/31/21
Interstate 485 advances east to the six-ramp parclo interchange (Exit 59) with Rea Road. 05/31/21
Rea Road (SR 3649) heads north to from Exit 59 to NC 51 and Colony Road. 05/31/21
Exit 59 departs Interstate 485 east at the Elm Lane (SR 3649) overpass. Rhea Road (SR 1316) south through suburban areas of Union County. 05/31/21
NC 16 follows Providence Road southeast from E 3rd Street and Downtown Charlotte to a six-ramp parclo interchange (Exit 57) with Interstate 485. A third general purpose lane opened along I-485 between Rea Road and Providence Road on November 6, 2021.1 05/31/21
Weddington lies three miles south along NC 16 (Providence Road) from Exit 57. The state route ends at Waxahwa in 9.78 miles. 05/31/21
Construction for the I-485 Express Lanes includes adding a folded diamond interchange with Weddington Road (SR 3468). 11/20/21
Interstate 485 bends northeastward and straddles the Union County line through the town of Matthews. John Street (SR 1010) connects with the freeway at Exit 52. 11/20/21
Weddington Road (SR 3468) crosses Interstate 485 north of Plantation Market Shopping Center and south of the Winterbrooke subdivision among others. 11/20/21

John Street (SR 1010) runs southeast from Exit 52 to Old Monroe Road and Stallings and northwest into central Matthews. 11/20/21
U.S. 74 and I-485 converge at a directional cloverleaf interchange (Exit 51) between Charlotte and the town of Indian Trail. 11/20/21
A collector distributor roadway separates from the outer loop of I-485 at Exit for U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard). 11/20/21
Two lanes leave the c/d roadway for Exit 51 B to U.S. 74 east. The tolled Monroe Expressway (U.S. 74 Bypass) circumvents Monroe, connecting with the continuation of U.S. 74 east to Rockingham, Laurinburg and Wilmington. 11/20/21
U.S. 74 crosses into Union County and enters Indian Hill beyond Exit 254 to Marie Garris Drive (SR 3909) within one mile. 11/20/21
The succeeding exit along Interstate 485 north is for Idlewild Road (SR 3174). 05/31/21
U.S. 74 constitutes a major commuter route between Downtown Charlotte via Independence Boulevard and the Union County seat of Monroe. 05/31/21
