SR 22 is a 168.54 mile long highway stretching east from SR 5 at Safford in southwest Alabama through Selma, Clanton and Alexander City, to the Georgia state line east of Roanoke.

Alabama Route 22 East

Alabama Route 22 West
SR 22 west combines with SR 49 south for a one mile overlap at the northern Tallapoosa County community of New Site. 09/29/03
SR 22 westbound parts ways with SR 49 at New Site. 17 miles to the south, SR 49 reaches the county seat of Dadeville and U.S. 280. SR 22 continues 13 miles westward to Alexander City. 09/29/03
SR 22 westbound combines with SR 63 at Alexander City. SR 63 travels nine miles north to Hackneyille. 09/29/03
One mile outside Downtown Alexander City, SR 22/63 reach U.S. 280. SR 63 turns south from SR 22 along a 25 mile course to Eclectic. SR 22 combines with U.S. 280 west for a two mile overlap. U.S. 280 east heads 13 miles to SR 49 at Dadeville. 09/29/03
SR 22 crosses Mitchell Lake from in rural Coosa County into Chilton County. Mitchell Dam is located to the north. 09/29/03
SR 22 westbound converges with U.S. 31 south of Cooper and north of Verbena. The state route turns northwestward along U.S. 31 for an eight mile overlap to the county seat of Clanton. 09/29/03
