Delaware State Route 32 was designated in 1968 along a 38.4 mile route straddling the Maryland state line in southern Sussex County. The route was renumbered as part of multi-state route 54 in 1969. This route included the renumbering of MD 467, from the southwest corner of Delaware west to Mardela Springs and MD 455 along the state line between Delmar and SR 26 east of Whitesville.
