Louisiana 82

Louisiana 82 is a part of a 156-mile multi-state route serving southwest Louisiana from Port Arthur, Texas east to Cameron and Abbeville. The state highway includes the Cameron Ferry as part of its route.

Louisiana 82 east
Louisiana 82 provides the only link between Cameron Parish and the state of Texas. The coastal parish, the largest land area parish in Louisiana, was founded in 1870 and named after Simon Cameron, President Abraham Lincoln's first secretary of war. 6,839 people live in Cameron Parish per the 2010 census. A reassurance marker for LA-82 resides at the Sabine Lake bridge end. The state highway stretches east across coastal Cameron Parish into Vermillion Parish, where route turns northeasterly to Abbeville along a 143-mile route. Photo taken 11/20/10.
Approaching Louisiana 27 north near the community of Holly Beach along LA-82 east. LA-27 travels 33 miles north to Interstate 10 at Sulphur as part of a 132-mile fish hook shaped route between U.S. 190 at DeRidder and Louisiana 14 near Holmwood. Photo taken 11/20/10.
Louisiana 27 south & 82 east combine for 24.7 miles east from Holly Beach to Creole along a route that includes the Cameron Ferry across the Calcasieu Ship Channel. Together LA-27 north, LA-82 west, and LA-27 & 82 entail the Creole Nature Trail scenic byway. Photo taken 11/20/10.

Industrial facilities of Port Arthur come into view as Louisiana 82 nears the Texas state line and transition into SH 82. Photo taken 11/20/10.
This view looks westbound along Louisiana Highway 82 as it prepares to bridge the southern tip of Sabine Lake. This marks, from a road transport perspective, the southwestern corner of Louisiana and the southeastern corner of Texas. Photo taken 11/20/10.
An old swing bridge located here was damaged by Hurricane Rita and replaced with a new $16 million structure which opened at the end of 2009. The bridge traverses the state line between Louisiana and Texas, although the actual boundary is unsigned here. Photo taken 11/20/10.
