Alabama 217 - Lott Road

Northwestern spur from U.S. 45 at Eight Mile into northwestern Mobile County. The road is designated Lott Road throughout. The southernmost fifteen miles serves a scattering of newer subdivisions and older housing communities to the north of U.S. 98. Alabama 217 sees its landscape traverse pine forest lands for the remainder of its routing. The northern terminus occurs at Mobile County 21 to the southwest of Citronelle in the proverbial "middle-of-nowhere". Lott Road however, continues northward to Mobile County 96 (which becomes Mississippi 594) west of Citronelle as a dirt road. Counties: Mobile

Known as Lott Road, Alabama 217 travels westward 6.6 miles to the north end of Schillinger Road (Mobile County 31) with a scattering of residences and churches along the otherwise rural two lane highway. Alabama 217 ends at the beginning of Mobile County 21 (Prine Road). Lott Road continues north as a dirt road 4.9 miles to Mobile County 96 ( Beverly Jeffries Highway), 3.1 miles east of its transition into Mississippi 594. A flasher was added to the intersection with Coleman Dairy Road by 2012. The east-west road feeds a lot of traffic from area residences onto SR 217. 2010 traffic counts increase to 12,280 vpd south of this intersection as a result. Photo taken 10/21/12.
Louvered signals are used at the intersection of Alabama 217 (Lott Road) and McCrary Road (County Road 27 south) at the community of Millertown due to the acute angle at which the two roads intersect. Belcase Road opened as a northerly extension of Highpoint Boulevard between Alabama 217 (Lott Road) and U.S. 45 by 2007. Highpoint Boulevard leads south to Bear Fork Road and the Mobile city line where it name changes to University Boulevard. Photo taken 07/16/07.
Alabama 217 concludes at this intersection with U.S. 45 in Prichard. Lott Road continues one block to the east, ending at Alabama 213. Alabama 213 terminates also at U.S. 45, only two blocks to the south. This area is known as Eight Mile.
