Passing under Eastern Avenue, MD 201 becomes D.C. Route 295 (Kenilworth Avenue Freeway) south. Texas style U-turn ramps accompany the overpass for the adjacent Kenilworth Avenue frontage streets. 08/04/13
Just beyond the Maryland state line, a slip ramp links D.C. 295 (Kenilworth Avenue) with the west side frontage street ahead of Nash and Meade Streets. 10/12/14
A succeeding slip ramp departs from D.C. 295 south next for Kenilworth Avenue south to Burroughs Avenue and Minnesota Avenue. 10/12/14
Burroughs Avenue stems east from Kenilworth Avenue at Lee Street to Eastern Avenue at Burrville. Minnesota Avenue parallels D.C. 295 southwest to Benning, Fort Dupont Park and Anacostia. 10/12/14

A slip ramp connects D.C. 295 (Kenilworth Avenue Freeway) south with the frontage road ahead of Foote Street and Benning Road. Benning Road arcs northwest from Coral Hills, Maryland by Marshall Heights in Washington to cross D.C. 295 en route to the Kingman Park north of RFK Stadium. 10/12/14
An entrance ramp follows from Kenilworth Avenue south of Hayes Street. Until 2007, a second slip ramp served Benning Road more directly from D.C. 295 south. 08/04/13

The exit for Baker Street west at Kenilworth Avenue south and River Terrace leaves D.C. 295 south. The right lane next defaults onto E Capitol Street west across the Whitney Young Memorial Bridge to RFK Stadium. 10/12/14
E Capitol Street forks into C Street NE and Independence Avenue SE at RFK Stadium. East-west streets beyond the venue eventually lead to Downtown Washington. 08/04/13

Ascending over the railroad yard, D.C. 295 southbound next meets Pennsylvania Avenue SE at a three quarter cloverleaf interchange. A ramp stub was constructed here in anticipation of the unconstructed Barney Circle Connector planned in the mid 1990s. The Barney Circle Connector was envisioned a four lane freeway (I-695) extension from Barney Circle east across the Anacostia River.1 10/12/14

Nationals Park, home of the MLB Washington Nationals, is located along S Capitol Street midway between I-295 at Suitland Parkway and I-695 along the Southeast Freeway. 10/12/14
Interstate 695 begins at a directional T interchange (Exit 1) with the south end of the 11th Street Bridge. 10/12/14
Work upgrading the exchange with I-695, including access to 11th Street SE, Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Anacostia Park, was completed in 2012. 10/12/14
Interstate 695 follows the 11th Street Bridge north across the Anacostia River onto the Southeast Freeway toward I-395 and Capitol Hill. Renumbering approved by AASHTO in November 2020 replaces I-695 with an eastward extension of I-395. 10/12/14
Departing from D.C. 295 south, the exit for Interstate 695 splits with a left side ramp to 11th Street SE north to the Washington Navy Yard and Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue south for the Anacostia community. 08/04/13
A high flyover connects D.C. 295 southbound with the continuation of the Anacostia Freeway along Interstate 295. 08/04/13
I-695 travels two miles overall between I-295 / D.C. 295 to I-395. The freeway connects with the Center Leg Freeway (I-195) north to the U.S. Capitol area and the Southwest Freeway (I-395) west to the National Mall and Arlington, Virginia. 08/04/13
Exit 1 A transitions onto Interstate 295 south 0.4 miles ahead of Exit 4 to Suitland Parkway and S Capitol Street. 10/12/14
