Virginia 895 is the Pocahontas Parkway, an 8.8-mile route connecting Interstate 95 and Virginia 150 (Chippenham Parkway) to the west with Richmond International Airport and Interstate 295 to the east.
First planned in 1981, Interstate 895 faced funding woes from 1987 to 1992, being dropped from the Virginia Department of Transportation six-year plan in 1987 but re-added in 1992. Funding never materialized beyond money for preliminary engineering, and the road was rechristened in 1998 as the first toll road approved from the Virginia Public-Private Transportation Act of 1995. Construction began in October 1998 and was completed by September of 2002. A more detailed history of the route can be found on the Interstate Guide for Route 895.

Ramps from Interstate 95 onto Virginia 895's Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge rise dramatically as the Pocahontas Parkway begins and spans the James River. There is no access to Virginia 895 from southbound Interstate 95; the only access is from eastbound Virginia 150/Chippenham Parkway and northbound Interstate 95. Due to the height of the bridge, the approaches from these two roads are very steep. Photo taken 06/22/05.
