U.S. 211 travels 59.15 miles in northern Virginia along Lee Highway east from Interstate 81 and U.S. 11 at New Market to U.S. 15-29-211 Business in Warrenton. SR 211 extends west from I-81 at Exit 264 in New Market along Old Cross Road and New Market Road 5.63 miles to SR 42 (Main Street) in Timberville.

Within the town of New Market, SR 1002 along Old Cross Road 0.69 miles east from U.S. 11/211 at Congress Street to U.S. 211 along Lee Highway represents the pre-1951 alignment of U.S. 211. U.S. 211 dog legs south alongside U.S. 11 for 0.27 miles from Lee Highway to Old Cross Road.

Prior to 1980, U.S. 211 extended east from Warrenton to the junction of I-66 and U.S. 29 in Arlington. The route was truncated with approval by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). The Route Numbering Committee Report for June 22, 1980 further requested that the state of Virginia eliminate U.S. 211 altogether:

While the Committee has concurred in the partial elimination of U.S. 211 in Virginia, we are going to request the State to see if the entire segment from U.S. 11 to the intersection of U.S. 17 cannot be dropped. We further encourage the State to eliminate the U.S. 211 and Business 211 markings in Warrenton.
