AARoads.com Highway Links
This page is a supplement to the many other great road sites out there. Have you noticed how many more have jumped on the bandwagon since we first started this page in June 1997? In the pages recommended below, you can discover things as diverse as a list of all Interstate Highways, the home page for an old road map collecting society, a .gif of every sign in the U.S., and a rant or two against Interstate 99.
If you have any changes to the links shown here, please Contact Us. We'll be sure to consider the link changes for the next revision of the Highway Kick-Off Page.
While reading the links, please note that the date at the end of each entry indicates the last date we revised or added an entry. This page was commissioned on July 14, 1997, and we added this date feature on August 30, 1998. Therefore, any page added during this initial timespan will show "8/30/98." Any page or link modified thereafter will show the date of change rather than 8/30/98. This will allow you, the reader, an easier method to locate the new entries.

National Highway Websites
- Interstate Highways Guide (Alex Nitzman/Andy Field/Douglas Kerr). Completely redesigned, with coverage including every signed, secret, future, and select terminated Interstates within the system. Pages redebuted Spring of 2002, and have been facelifted to not only include photos of Interstate terminus, but also mileage and other useful information. (1/21/01).
- Interstate Highways (David Steinberg). David (popularly known as "ZZYZX") has created a complete list of all existing Interstate Highways, excluding proposed new Interstates. I wonder if David has added Interstate 73 to his list yet? (8/30/98).
- Three Digit Interstates -- 3di's (Scott Oglesby). Scott (popularly known as "Kurumi") has an extraordinarily comprehensive list of all current, old, future, and planned three-digit interstates. There's even a bunch of cool maps so you can see the 3di alignments. This page complements the ZZYZX site nicely. (8/30/98).
- Proposals for Interstate Route Numbering (Stephen Summers). This historical site features scans of original Interstate highway proposals from the states. (05/17/03)
- List of AASHTO Control Cities on Interstate Highways (Paul Wolf). (05/17/03)
- U.S. Highways: From U.S. 1 to (U.S. 830) (Robert V. Droz). The U.S. Highway page contains a complete list of all U.S. highways past and present. It also covers the original 1925 Bureau of Public Roads recommendations, the 1927 adopted route plan, various milestones between 1927 and today, and split/divided U.S. routes (such as U.S. 99E, 25W, 301S, and 6N). (10/17/00)
- U.S. Highway Evolution (Robert C. McCaleb). Ever since 1926, new U.S. routes have been added ("commissioned") and old U.S. routes have been removed from the system ("decommissioned.") The most additions to the system took place during its first few years, generally before 1957, when the system reached its high point. Then the coming of the Interstate highway gradually reduced the significance of the U.S. Highway System. This site documents those changes over the past century.
- Misc.transport.road (MTR) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) (Marc Fannin). Be sure to turn here first for any general questions about roads and highways. Now located at Roadfan.com (8/6/00)
- Where Roads Meet: The Website for Interchanges (Dan). This website is devoted to interchanges - mostly the uncommon ones which you don't see every day. (11/18/04)
- Mapguy's Home Page (Dale Sanderson). Cool page that shows the termini of U.S. 6, 18, 24, 138, 285, and 385, among others. Dale created and hosts the historical maps for the Wyoming U.S. Routes pages.
- NHS/ISTEA/TEA-21 High Priority Corridors. (Andy Field/Alex Nitzman) This page discusses the Intermodal Surface Transportation and Efficiency Act (ISTEA), National Highway System Designation Act (NHS), and Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) High Priority Corridors. I separated the actual ISTEA, NHS, and TEA-21 legislation verbiage from the rumors. Also be sure to check out the official National Highway System Home Page and the List of High Priority Corridors Corridors. (8/18/01)
- Appalachian Regional Development Commission Corridors (Andy Field/Alex Nitzman). This page lists all of the current ARC Corridors of the Appalachian Region of the Eastern United States. (10/22/99)
- Potential New Interstate Corridors. (Andy Field/Alex Nitzman) This page lists proposed new Interstate corridors, including some of those designated in the ISTEA, NHS, and TEA-21 Legislation. Keep in mind that many of the corridors listed are purely speculative; it is unlikely that any of them will be built anytime soon.
- Canonical List of Interstate Business Loops (Andy Field/Alex Nitzman). This page provides a complete list of Interstate business connections (10/22/99)
- Two-Digit Interstates (David J. Masuck). (4/27/01)
- State Route Three Digit "Interstates" (Christopher Sampang). This page lists all of the state routes with "Interstate-compatible" designations, such as Illinois 394, Vermont 191, and California 905. (8/30/98)
- List of Interstate Highways (Larry Harvilla). (11/18/04)
- The Expressway Site (Eric Smith). Information source about partially
controlled access expressways. (05/25/04)
