| Interstate 81 crosses the Virginia state line from Tennessee as a six lane freeway. A widening of the freeway at the city of Bristol occurred between 1998 and 1999. A welcome center is situated between the state line and Exit 1 interchange with U.S. 58 west & 421. Photo taken 08/23/03.

| Interstate 81 & U.S. 58 draws to within one half mile of Interstate 381 (Exit 3). Interstate 381 is so short that it features no interchanges and is omitted from some maps.
