Northbound - Capital Beltway to Interstate 895 (Exit 61)

Interstate 95 North
Sign bridge posted at the Knollwood Park and Ride lot south of the Interstate 95 & 495 (Exit 27) merge near College Park. Although Interstate 95 was never constructed through north Washington, ramps for the never built roadway and a small portion of actual freeway were built from the Capital Beltway southward. The roadway was converted into a park and ride facility and is fully accessible to/from all directions of Interstates 95 and 495. Photo taken 07/24/04.
The next exit along northbound is Exit 29, Junction Maryland 212 southwest to College Park and east to Beltsville. Photo taken 09/25/04.
Maryland 212 (Powder Mill Road) begins at the District of Columbia boundary just east of Takoma Park, then heads north through Lewisdale and passing the Capital Beltway (Interstate 495) before reaching Interstate 95 at Exit 29. From there, Maryland 212 heads southeast to Beltsville, where it ends at U.S. 1. Photo taken 09/25/04.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 29, Junction Maryland 212/Powder Mill Road. Photo taken 06/07/04.
A full cloverleaf interchange joins Maryland 212 (Powder Mill Road) with Interstate 95 at Exits 29A/B. The ramps to/from Maryland 212 are served by collector/distributor roadways on each side of the eight-lane freeway. Pictured here is the Exit 29A ramp departure for Maryland 212 eastbound to Beltsville and the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. Photo taken 09/25/04.
The Exit 29B loop ramp leaves Interstate 95 northbound for Maryland 212 (Powder Mill Road) westbound at Calverton. Powder Mill Road continues southwest from Interstate 95 to Knollwood and junction Maryland 650 near White Oak. Maryland 212 follows Riggs Road south from Knollwood to Adelphi and Lewisdale. Use Maryland 212 westbound for the Federal Research Center at White Oak. Photo taken 09/25/04.

This mileage sign, which includes the distance to Laurel, Baltimore, and New York City, is probably the first one along north Interstate 95 to mention the distance to New York City. Photo taken 06/07/04.
A rest area/welcome center is located six miles ahead along northbound. Photo taken 06/07/04.
For Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport, use Interstate 195 east (Exit 47). Photo taken 06/07/04.
Once in the Baltimore area, travelers are afforded four choices to pass through the city: two toll tunnels (Interstate 95 and Interstate 895), a toll bridge (Interstate 695 east), or a wide bypass via Interstate 695 west. Photo taken 09/25/04.
The next exit along northbound is Exits 33A-B, Junction Maryland 198/Sandy Spring Road/Gorman Avenue, one mile. Photo taken 09/25/04.
Use Maryland 198/Gorman Avenue east to reach Laurel and Fort Meade via Exit 33A. Photo taken 09/25/04.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 33A, Junction Maryland 198/Gorman Avenue east to Laurel. The next exit is Exit 33B, Maryland 198/Sandy Spring Road west to Burtonsville. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Use Maryland 198/Sandy Spring Road west to reach Burtonsville and Browns Corner in Montgomery County. Photo taken 06/07/04.
The next exit along northbound is Exits 35A-B, Junction Maryland 216 south to Laurel and northwest to Scaggsville and Highland. Photo taken 09/25/04.
Use Exit 35A to reach Maryland 216 south to Laurel. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 35A, Junction Maryland 216 south to Laurel. The next exit is Exit 35B, Junction Maryland 216 northwest to U.S. 29/Scaggsville. These are among the few remaining button copy, non-reflective signs remaining on Interstate 95 in Maryland. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 35B, Junction Maryland 216 northwest to Scaggsville. Photo taken 09/25/04.
A Maryland Welcome Center is located midway between the Capital Beltway and the Baltimore Beltway for a convenient place to obtain tourist information for the greater Baltimore-Annapolis-Washington vicinity. Photo taken 09/25/04.
The next exit along northbound is Exit 38A-B, Junction Maryland 32, a freeway that heads northwest toward Columbia (Junction U.S. 29) and southeast toward Annapolis (via Interstate 97). Photo taken 09/25/04.
Maryland 32 east is mostly a freeway, with the exception of a small stretch just east of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (Route 295) that is being converted into controlled access. Once that project is complete, Maryland 32 will be full freeway from U.S. 29 to Interstate 97, thus providing a continuous freeway from Interstate 70 and U.S. 29 directly southeast to Annapolis. Too bad the interchange between U.S. 29 and Maryland 23 is a cloverleaf. Photo taken 09/25/04.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 38A, Junction Maryland 32 East to Annapolis. The next exit is Exit 38B, Junction Maryland 32 west to Columbia. Photo taken 09/25/04.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 38B, Junction Maryland 32 west to Columbia and Ellicott City. Photo taken 06/07/04.
The next exit along northbound is Exits 41A-B, Junction Maryland 175 southeast to Jessup and northwest to Columbia. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Maryland 175 follows Little Patuxent Parkway, a semi-freeway, to the northwest of here as it angles toward Columbia. To the southeast, it enters Jessup. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Exit 41 carries traffic bound for Maryland 175 (Little Patuxent Parkway) in unison from Interstate 95 northbound. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Exit 41 partitions into east and westbound ramps beyond the gore point with Interstate 95. The westbound off-ramp travels through a signalized intersection with Maryland 175 eastbound before joining Little Patuxent Parkway ahead of junction Maryland 108 (Waterloo Road). Exit 41A merges onto Maryland 176 eastbound ahead of junction U.S. 1 (Baltimore Washington Boulevard) at Waterloo. Photo taken 06/07/04.
This mileage sign along northbound provides the distances to the next three exits: Exits 43A-B, Junction Maryland 100; Exit 46, Junction Interstate 895/Harbor Tunnel Thruway north; and Exits 47A-B, Junction Interstate 195 to Maryland 166. Photo taken 06/22/05.
The next exit for northbound Interstate 95 is Exits 43A-B, Junction Maryland 100, 0.50 mile. Maryland 100 is a freeway between Maryland 10 in the southeast and U.S. 29 in the northwest. Use Exit 43B to take Maryland 100 northwest to Columbia and Ellicott City. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 43A, Junction Maryland 100 southeast to Severn, Southgate, Glen Burnie, Lake Shore, and Gibson Island. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 43B, Junction Maryland 100 northwest to Columbia and Ellicott City. Photo taken 06/07/04.
The next three exits along Interstate 95 are each for Interstate Highways: Exit 46, Junction Interstate 895/Harbor Tunnel Thruway north; Exits 47A-B, Junction Interstate 195 to Maryland 166; and Exits 49A-B, Junction Interstate 695/Baltimore Beltway. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Vehicles that do not meet the hazardous materials restrictions for the Interstate 95/Fort McHenry Tunnel or Interstate 895/Harbor Tunnel are advised to take Interstate 695 east over the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Photo taken 06/07/04.
The Maryland Transportation Authority maintains all three Patapsco River/Baltimore Harbor crossings, and they each have the same toll: $2 per car. Any of the three routes (Interstate 95, Interstate 895, or Interstate 695 east) may be used to continue northeast toward Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Photo taken 06/07/04.
A second look at the "Tunnels to Interstate 95 north" guide sign reveals the addition of a sound wall at the Montgomery Road over crossing. The Fort McHenry Tunnel lies 12 miles ahead via the Interstate 95 mainline. Interstate 895 passes underneath Baltimore Harbor in nine miles. Photo taken 06/25/05.
Commercial trucks and buses bound for points east of Baltimore Harbor are advised of the dimension restrictions for the Harbor Tunnel of Interstate 895. All vehicles carrying hazardous materials are prohibited, and oversized vehicles should use Interstate 695 east across the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Photo taken 06/25/05.
Northbound Interstate 95 approaches Exit 46, Junction Interstate 895/Harbor Tunnel Thruway north, one mile. Interstate 895 provides a viable alternate route to Interstate 95 and the Fort McHenry Tunnel. The two-lane Harbor Tunnel Thruway carries a lower 50-55 mph speed limit, but the lower traffic counts make up for it. Photo taken 06/07/04.
This interchange marks the southern beginning of Interstate 895 and the Harbor Tunnel Thruway. The two highways will again cross paths north of their respective tunnels, as Interstate 95 takes a westward trajectory, while Interstate 895 continues in a northeast fashion. Both routes have a toll tunnel component, and the tolls on both tunnels (and the Key Bridge on Interstate 695) cost the same amount (two dollars). Photo taken 06/07/04.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 46, Junction Interstate 895 north. The next exit along northbound is Exit 47, Junction Interstate 195, one mile. Interstate 895 travelers default into the Harbor Tunnel toll plaza ahead of the Exit 9 half-diamond interchange with Childs Street. The Childs Street off-ramp provides a last minute departure point for vehicles restricted in the tunnel. Otherwise Interstate 895 provides no other exits northbound between Interstate 95 and the tunnel. Photo taken 06/25/05.
A small sign reminds motorists of the forthcoming Fort McHenry Tunnel crossing of Interstate 95 at the Exit 46 partial "Y" interchange with Interstate 895. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Interstate 195 was completed in June 1990, connecting a Maryland 166 freeway between Interstate 95 and U.S. 1 with the former Maryland 46 freeway between Maryland 295 and the airport. When the bridge over the Patapsco River was constructed between the two state routes, the whole freeway was added to the Interstate Highway System as Interstate 195. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Somewhat visible on this signage is a removed Maryland 166 shield and Catonsville imprint. This stems from when the Interstate 195 freeway between the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (Maryland 295) and Interstate 95 did not exist. At the time, Maryland 166 was also signed on the freeway spur from Maryland 295 to Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport. Upon completion of the missing segment, Interstate 195 was christened, and Maryland 166 was truncated. This sign is located along northbound at Exit 47, Junction Interstate 195. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Use Interstate 195 east to reach Baltimore-Washington International Airport and Interstate 195 west to connect with Maryland 166/Rolling Road west to Catonsville. Photo taken 06/07/04.
The next exit along northbound is Exits 49A-B, Junction Interstate 695/Baltimore Beltway. Northbound Interstate 95 first approaches eastbound Interstate 695 (outer loop) to the Francis Scott Key Bridge as well as Glen Burnie and Annapolis via Interstate 97 south. Photo taken 06/22/05.
This interchange has a design comparable to the one used at the northern Interstate 95/695 interchange (Exit 64), with left-hand ramps such as the one to Interstate 695 west/north to Catonsville and Pikesville. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Use Interstate 695 east/outer loop to reach Interstate 97 south to Glen Burnie and Annapolis. Use Interstate 695 west/inner loop to reach Interstate 70 west to Frederick and Hagerstown. Towson is an odd control city to use here for westbound, considering that it is located at the north end of the beltway near where Interstate 83 intersects Interstate 695. It would be better perhaps to use a control city for Interstate 70 here instead, especially since there is no direct connection from Interstate 95 to Interstate 70. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 49B, Junction Interstate 695 west/inner loop to Interstate 70 and U.S. 40 as well as Interstate 795 northwest to Reisterstown and Westminster. Photo taken 06/22/05.
The next exit along northbound is Alternate U.S. 1, which is a fairly short highway that follows Washington Boulevard from U.S. 1/Southwestern Boulevard north to Caton Avenue and Caton Avenue from there north to U.S. 1/Wilkens Avenue. Alternate U.S. 1 is signed at its interchange with Interstate 695 but is not signed at this interchange. That may be due to the fact that the Maryland Transportation Authority maintains this stretch of Interstate 95 while the Maryland State Highway Administration maintains Interstate 695 to the southeast. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Now entering the city of Baltimore, Interstate 95 passes through the Caton Avenue/Alternate U.S. 1 interchange. Upon reaching this interchange, maintenance responsibilities shift from the Maryland State Highway Administration to the Maryland Transportation Authority. From here north to Delaware, Interstate 95 is a toll-financed facility. The tolled section of Interstate 95 is managed in two components: the Fort McHenry Tunnel Approach (from Exits 50 to 61) and the John F. Kennedy Highway (which carries Interstate 95 from the Baltimore City Limits northeast to the Delaware State Line). Both Interstate 95/Fort McHenry Tunnel Approach from Exit 50/Alternate U.S. 1/Caton Avenue to Exit 61 (Interstate 895 merge) and Interstate 95/John F. Kennedy Highway from Exit 61/Interstate 895 to Exit 109/Maryland 279 south are maintained by the MDTA. Tolls finance the maintenance of the entire stretch, even though tolls are not collected at each entrance/exit point. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Interstate 95 is split into a dual freeway configuration as it passes under Caton Avenue. As noted on the sign for Exit 50, Alternate U.S. 1/Caton Avenue north leads to U.S. 1/Wilkens Avenue. The next exit along northbound is Exit 51, Washington Boulevard, followed by Junction Maryland 295/Russell Street north. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Use Exit 53/Junction Interstate 395 north to reach Camden Yards and the Inner Harbor. Note the logos for the Baltimore Orioles (Major League Baseball) and Baltimore Ravens (National Football League) are placed on the overhead sign. Russell Street may be used as an alternative (Exit 52). Also note the Port of Baltimore Exits (via Exits 54, 55, and 56). Photo taken 06/22/05.
The most important exit to downtown Baltimore is Exit 53, Junction Interstate 395. In addition to leading to all of the cultural and historical attractions downtown, along with the financial center, Interstate 395 also provides access to the University of Maryland at Baltimore, John Hopkins Medical Center, and several health care facilities. A service plaza is located on northbound at Exit 57, just after the Fort McHenry Tunnel. Photo taken 06/22/05.
The Fort McHenry Tunnel prohibits hazardous materials and is restricted. All non-complying vehicles must exit by Exit 55, Key Highway. The downtown skyline draws into view on the freeway viaduct near Parksley Avenue. According to the 2004 census estimate, Baltimore is home to 636,251 residents. Photo taken 06/22/05.
The next exit along northbound is Exit 51, Washington Boulevard north to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and south to Alternate U.S. 1/Caton Avenue. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Northbound Interstate 95 at Exit 51, Washington Boulevard. Use Washington Boulevard for the Violetville and Carroll Park areas of Baltimore. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Now on the off-ramp from Interstate 95 north onto Washington Boulevard, traffic is afforded options for Washington Boulevard north and south and Hollins Ferry Road south to the Mount Winans, Westport, and Lakeland neighborhoods. Photo taken 06/07/04.
Interstate 95 continues eastward toward the Russell Street northbound off-ramp (Exit 52). Although not readily visible from the freeway mainline, to the right are ramp stubs for the unconstructed Interstate 70 eastern terminus. High-speed flyovers were to join the two freeways here with Interstate 70 traveling northwest to Gwynns Falls Park and west Baltimore. Never built due to immense community opposition, ghost ramps elements remain alongside Interstate 95 here to this day. The best way to view the interchange elements is from above. Photo taken 06/22/05.
The next exit along northbound is Exit 52, which is unsigned Maryland 295/Russell Street north to Ravens Stadium and Camden Yards. Maryland 295 extends north until reaching U.S. 40 (Franklin Street/Mulberry Street couplet) along surface streets. South of Interstate 95, Maryland 295 follows the Baltimore-Washington Expressway through Westport and Lakeland in south Baltimore. There is no access from northbound Interstate 95 onto southbound Maryland 295. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Northbound Interstate 95 is orientated in an east/west fashion as it approaches downtown and Exit 52 for Northbound Maryland 295/Russell Street. Departing the freeway after Exit 52 is the northbound beginning of Interstate 395 (Exit 53). Use either Exit 52 or 53 for access to the Baltimore downtown attractions and central business district. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Motorists merge onto Interstate 95 northbound from a lengthy viaduct emanating from the U.S. 1 Alternate cloverleaf-interchange (Exit 50). The viaduct includes a stub from unconstructed Interstate 70 east. Pictured here is the Exit 52 ramp departure and an exit-only Interstate 395 sign for incoming motorists. Photo taken 06/22/05.
The next exit along northbound is Exit 53, Junction Interstate 395 north into downtown Baltimore. Use Interstate 395 as the primary route to: Ravens Stadium, Camden Yards, Baltimore Convention Center, University of Maryland at Baltimore, and Hopkins Plaza. Interstate 395 is a feeder route that starts as a freeway, then separates into two legs: one to northbound Martin Luther King Boulevard, which avoids downtown but provides a quick route to destinations north and west of the core area, and another branch along South Howard Street, which passes by the convention center and Baltimore Arena before meeting U.S. 40 just west of Interstate 83. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Northbound Interstate 95 remains elevated as it approaches Interstate 395 (Exit 53). Interstate 395 is the shortest Interstate highway in Maryland, and the sum of its two branches (one to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and the other to Howard Street) equals the total mileage of the route as presented in the Federal Highway Administration Interstate Highway List and Route Finder. Nevertheless, Interstate 395 is the gateway route into downtown, and it is almost entirely built on viaducts. In fact, the interchange between Interstate 95 and Interstate 395 is built over the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River/Baltimore Harbor! Photo taken 06/22/05.
Interstate 95 Maryland northbound reassurance shield posted on the viaduct over the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River at junction Interstate 395. The only mainline Interstate 95 state name shields found between the Virginia state line and the Susquehanna River are found at the stack interchange with Interstate 395 as of Fall 2004. Photo taken 10/02/04.
High flyovers soar over the Interstate 95 elevated highway and Patapsco River below at Exit 53. Two ramps travel alongside the Interstate 95 mainline between Maryland 295 (Baltimore-Washington Expressway) and Interstate 395 as well. Photo taken 06/22/05.
The next exit along northbound is Exit 54, Junction Maryland 2/Hanover Street. Maryland 2 heads south from downtown Baltimore, changing from a one-way couplet (Calvert Street northbound and Saint Paul Street southbound) into Hanover Street in the South Baltimore neighborhood. The state highway passes through the financial district and passes by Harbor Mall and Harborplace/The Gallery along the way. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Drivers bound for Interstate 95 northbound from Interstate 395 southbound travel overhead in this scene. Merging in from the right is the northbound on-ramp from Maryland 295 (Baltimore-Washington Expressway). The Maryland 295 on-ramp is segregated from the Interstate 395 northbound off-ramp. Photo taken 06/22/05.
A myriad of information is provided by the sign bridge ahead of the Exit 54 partial "Y" interchange with Maryland 2 (Hanover Street). Maryland 2 heads south through Port Covington to the Patapsco River. McComas and Cromwell Streets stem east from Hanover Street to the Port of Baltimore Locust Point terminals. That facility is also served by Exit 55 (Key Highway) onto McComas Street. Maryland 2 sees its northern terminus at its intersection with U.S. 1/North Avenue in Baltimore and its south end at Solomons Island. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Interstate 95 northbound at the Exit 54 ramp onto Maryland 2 (Hanover Street) southbound. There is no direct access to Maryland 2 northbound (use Interstate 395 north instead) for downtown. Hanover Street otherwise carries the state route across the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River into the Cherry Hill section of the city where Potee Street begins. Maryland 2 continues southward along Potee Street into the Brooklyn neighborhood of the city. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Exit 55 represents the last exit before the Fort McHenry Tunnel on Interstate 95 northbound. The exit departs the freeway viaduct for McComas Street ahead of its intersection with the Key Highway. Use the Key Highway northward for the Fort McHenry National Monument. Traffic on Interstate 95 northbound otherwise is advised of the $2.00 passenger toll for the Fort McHenry Tunnel. Photo taken 06/22/05.
The Fort McHenry Tunnel carries eight lanes of travel through four two-lane tubes. Speed limits are variable depending upon conditions and passing is not permitted. Motorists destined for the Exit 56 ramp to Keith Avenue should move to the right and use the outer tube. Photos taken 06/22/05.
The west portal, facade, and inner tube of the Fort McHenry Tunnel of Interstate 95 northbound. The underwater crossing spans the Northwest Harbor of the Patapsco River from Fort McHenry eastward to the Canton section of the city. The tunnel system opened to traffic in 1985. Photos taken 06/22/05.
Interstate 95 northbound emerges from the tunnels and quickly encounters the Fort McHenry toll plaza. A $2.00 toll is levied on all passenger vehicles ahead of the Exit 56 off-ramp to Keith Avenue. Keith Avenue travels east from Clinton Street to the Colgate section of Baltimore and Point Breeze Industrial Park. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Exit 56 leaves Interstate 95 northbound after the toll plaza. Keith Avenue intersects Newkirk Street nearby. Both Clinton and Newkirk Streets lead north to Boston Street and Canton. Keith Street otherwise ends at Broening Highway to the east. Photo taken 06/22/05.
The Fort McHenry toll plaza aligns itself alongside Interstate 895 (Harbor Tunnel Thruway). There is no access between Interstates 95 & 895 but the two freeways do cross one another. Ahead is the Exit 57 off-ramp for Boston and O'Donnell Streets to the Highlandtown and O'donell Heights sections of Baltimore. Photo taken 06/22/05.
The Boston and O'Donell Street couplet ventures west toward Fells Point and central Baltimore; eastward the tandem end at Dundalk Avenue. It should be noted that ramp stubs exist on all four Exit 57 ramps for unconstructed Interstate 83. Interstate 83 as originally envisioned was to continue east from its present terminus through Fells Point to Interstate 95 along Boston Street. Like Interstate 70, the freeway plan was controversial and disliked overall, and therefore withdrawn from planning. Photo taken 10/02/04.
Traffic joins Interstate 95 northbound from Boston & O'Donnell Streets below one half mile west of the Exit 58 ramp onto Dundalk Avenue southbound. Dundalk Avenue composes a surface arterial from Maryland 150 (Eastern Avenue) southeast to Dundalk, the Dundalk Marine Terminal, and Turners Station. Photo taken 10/02/04.
Interstate 95 maintains eight lanes of travel through eastern Baltimore. Exit 58 leaves the northbound viaduct for Dundalk Avenue southbound as Interstate 95 nears the Exit 59 five-ramp partial-cloverleaf interchange with Maryland 150 (Eastern Avenue). Photo taken 10/02/04.
Interstate 95 curves northward parallel to the Baltimore city and County line at the two-lane off-ramp to Maryland 150 (Eastern Avenue). Eastern Avenue travels east from Fells Point in Baltimore to Eastpont and Essex as Eastern Boulevard. Photo taken 10/02/04.
Continuing northbound on Interstate 95 at the Maryland 151 (North Point Road) under crossing. Exit 60 departs ahead for Moravia Road northbound. Moravia Road is a controlled-access connector between Interstate 95, U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway), and Interstate 895. There is no access from Moravia Road northbound onto U.S. 40, but there are ramps to Interstate 895 north and south. For traffic interests to U.S. 40 eastbound, remain on Interstate 95 north to Exit 61. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Moravia Road begins its northward venture via Exit 60 of Interstate 95 northbound. The highway transitions into a surface boulevard from Interstate 895 northwestward into the Gardenville neighborhood of the city. Visible to the right is a blank overhead and ghost ramp stub for the unconstructed Winlass Freeway between Interstate 95 and 695. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Exit 61 leaves Interstate 95 northbound soon after the Moravia Road partial "Y" interchange. Travelers using this ramp are defaulted onto U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway) eastbound for Rosedale, Glenmar, and White Marsh. U.S. 40 parallels the Interstate 95 corridor from here northeast to the state of Delaware. Photo taken 10/02/04.
Interstate 895 northbound returns to Interstate 95 northbound via a partial "Y" interchange at Exit 62. From there Interstate 95 continues with eight overall lanes to the junction with Interstate 695 (Baltimore Beltway) near Overlea in Baltimore County. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Nearing the Hazelwood Avenue overpass in Overlea on Interstate 95 northbound. The upcoming interchange with Interstate 695 is symmetrical as it includes carriageway reversals for both Interstate 95 and the Baltimore Beltway. What that means is that the northbound side travels to the left of the southbound side and vice versa for both freeways. Photo taken 10/02/04.
Exit 64A departs Interstate 95 northbound for Interstate 695 east / inner to Essex, Dundalk, Sparrows Point, and the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The Interstate 95 mainline passes over the southbound lanes ahead of the Exit 64B left-hand off-ramp onto Interstate 695 west / outer. Photo taken 06/22/05.
Interstate 95 reduces to six lanes through the Exit 64 interchange with Interstate 695. Pictured here is the ramp departure of Exit 64B for Interstate 695 west / outer to Overlea, Parkville, Towson, Lutherville, and York, Pennsylvania (via Interstate 83 north). Photo taken 10/02/04.
