Interstate 95 South
Traveling the high-speed flyover from the Capital Beltway west on Interstate 95 south through the Springfield Interchange. Turning southward, travelers enter the mix between the HOV roadway emanating from Interstate 395 south, the ending Interstate 395 southbound mainline, and the local lanes connecting with Virginia Secondary 644 (Old Keene Mill Road) west. The HOV roadway sees a separate ramp onto SSR 644 west to Springfield and Virginia Secondary 7900 (Franconia Springfield Parkway). Photos taken 06/17/05 & 10/11/09.
The local lanes of Interstate 95 south carry travelers to Virginia Secondary 644 (Franconia Road) east to Franconia (Exit 169A) and Virginia Secondary 644 (Old Keene Mill Road) west to Springfield (Exit 169B). Access to this roadway for Exit 169 is available from the mainlines of Interstate 395 and both directions of the Capital Beltway. Photo taken 07/11/05.
The Exit 169A panel was replaced by 2008. Originally the sign displayed "Interstate 95 South" as the lane for Exit 169A also continued through. Virginia Secondary 644 constitutes a major east-west arterial to Springfield Mall nearby. Photo taken 01/02/08.
A historical look, during the early phases of the Springfield Interchange Project, at Interstate 95 southbound ahead of the Exit 169 directional-cloverleaf interchange with Virginia Secondary 644. The majority of the interchange project between Interstate 95, SSR 664 and the Capital Beltway was completed by 2008. Phase VII, construction of HOV flyovers between Interstate 95 and the Beltway, is underway as of 2009 in conjunction with the HO/T lane project of Interstate 495 to the west. Photo taken 10/14/01.
Passing under Commerce Street (Virginia Secondary 789), the local lanes of Interstate 95 south split with a two-lane off-ramp to Virginia Secondary 644 (Old Keene Mill Road) west to Springfield. SSR 664 meets the split Virginia Secondary 617 (Backlick Road north / Amherst Avenue south) nearby. The arterial otherwise continues west to West Springfield, Westview Hills, Fairfax Park and an end at Fairfax County Parkway (SSR 7100). Photo taken 07/11/05.
Exit 169A follows as a loop ramp onto Virginia Secondary 644 (Franconia Road) east to Franconia, Silver Springs, and Ridgeview before ending at Virginia Secondary 611 (Telegraph Road) just south of Alexandria. Photo taken 01/02/08.
The highest flyover between Interstate 95 and Virginia Secondary 644 rises from westbound Franconia Road onto the southbound freeway. This bridge replaced a cloverleaf ramp. Photos taken 06/17/05 & 01/02/08.
