Attached to the Virginia Secondary 639 (Fair Hill Avenue) overpass is the one-mile guide sign for Virginia 3 (Exits 130B/A). A full-cloverleaf interchange joins the two highways near a heavily commercialized area anchored by Spotsylvania Town Centre. Photo taken 01/02/08.
Virginia 3 follows Plank Road within the city of Fredericksburg and Germanna Highway west from Waverly Village to junction U.S. 15/29/522 at Culpeper. Ashland replaces Fredericksburg as the next control city along Interstate 95 southbound mileage signs. Travelers leave the city limits of Fredericksburg and reenter Spotsylvania County at Hazel Run. U.S. 17 remains along the freeway through to the next interchange (Exit 126). Photos taken 12/26/06.
A partial-cloverleaf interchange facilitates the movements between the departing U.S. 17 to U.S. 1 from Interstate 95 at Exit 126. U.S. 1 & 17 combine for 0.93 miles along Jefferson Davis Highway south from Exit 126 to Mills Drive east. Sign changes between 2006 and 2008 replace Massaponax, the U.S. 1 southbound destination, with Spotsylvania, the county seat west along Virginia 208. Photos taken 06/17/05 & 01/02/08.
Virginia 208 begins at U.S. 1 & U.S. 1 Business at Four Mile Fork just east of Interstate 95 & U.S. 17 and crosses the freeway one-half mile north of Exit 126. The state route travels 50.30 miles southwest through Spotsylvania to Mineral and Interstate 64. Spotsylvania Parkway west to Smith Station Road (SSR 628) north connects U.S. 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) with Virginia 208 (Courthouse Road) west to the county seat. Suburban development continues along the Interstate 95 corridor between the freeway and adjacent Southpoint Parkway. The sprawling Massaponax Factory Outlet Center joins a new big-box retail complex at the split of U.S. 1 and 17 south nearby. U.S. 17 otherwise travels east along Mills Drive to junction Virginia 2 and U.S. 17 Business (Tidewater Trail) north at New Post. Interstate 95 southbound enters Hanover County at the community of Doswell. Virginia 30 intersects the freeway from Doswell and U.S. 1 eastward at Exit 98. The junction between Interstate 95 and Virginia 30 (Kings Dominion Boulevard) is also home to nearby Paramount's Kings Dominion Theme Park. Virginia 30 otherwise travels eastward into King William County to the town of West Point (pop. 2,866) at the mouth of the York River. Thornburg lies nearby at the cross roads of Virginia Secondary 618 (Mudd Tavern Road east / Morris Road west) and U.S. 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway). A diamond interchange joins Interstate 95 with Virginia Secondary 639 (Ladysmith Road). SSR 639 travels seven miles east to Virginia 207 outside Bowling Green and west fivem iles to Chilesburg from U.S. 1. Photo taken 01/02/08.

Virginia 207 provides a direct route from the U.S. 301 corridor leading south from the Governor Nice Bridge and southern Maryland to Interstate 95 south for Ashland and Richmond. Use Exit 98 to reach Kings Dominion, which has attractions similar to a Six Flags Great America or Six Flags Magic Mountain. Southbound Interstate 95 reaches Exit 98, Junction Virginia 30 west to Doswell and east to King William and West Point. Virginia 30 constitutes a 65-mile route eastward to Exit 231 of Interstate 64 outside Williamsburg. Photo taken 06/17/05.

Use Virginia 54 west to reach U.S. 1 in Ashland and U.S. 33 near Montpelier. Virginia 54 extends east from this interchange to meet U.S. 301/Virginia 2 in Hanover, where Virginia 54 reaches its eastern terminus. Virginia Secondary 802/Lewistown Road extends west to U.S. 1 just south of Ashland and east to connections with Virginia Secondary 657 and Virginia Secondary 656 near the airport. One of a handful of diagrammatical overheads to debut on Interstate 95 southbound in 2001 of the Interstate 95 and Interstate 295 layout of the Richmond and Petersburg metropolitan area. The overheads were installed to help direct additional through traffic away from downtown Richmond and Petersburg for North Carolina and points southward bound traffic. In addition to providing a bypass around Richmond and Petersburg, Interstate 295 south (Exit 84A) also connects to Richmond International Airport (via Exit 28) and provides a more direct route to the southern Virginia cities of Hopewell and Emporia. Photo taken 06/17/05.
Meanwhile, Virginia Secondary 656/Sliding Hill Road is the next interchange, Exit 86. Use Virginia Secondary 656 southeast to Virginia Secondary 637 to reach Atlee. Virginia Secondary 656 extends west to U.S. 1/Brook Road. Photo taken 01/02/08.
Interstate 295 south provides no direct connection to Interstate 85 (without backtracking), so Interstate 95 is a better route to Interstate 85 south to Durham, Greensboro, Charlotte, Spartanburg, Greenville, and Atlanta. Photo taken 01/02/08.
A two-mile overhead of Interstate 295 south (Exit 84A) is placed between Exits 89 and 86 (Sliding Hill Road). The ramp onto Interstate 295 southbound departs well ahead of the actual Interstate 95 junction with the north Richmond Bypass. The control city of Miami, Florida (pop. 362,470) was covered up on signs related to Exit 84 in 2001. Photo taken 06/17/05.
Construction replaced an original diamond interchange with a relocated Sliding Hill Road to the north in the mid 2000s. Sliding Hill Road constitutes a divided highway from the interchange with Interstate 95 west to junction U.S. 1 (Brook Road) near the Virginia Center Commons Mall. Southbound Interstate 95 reaches Exit 84A, Virginia Secondary 656/Sliding Hill Road east to Poindexters. To reach destinations located along Interstate 64 eastbound, a faster and more direct route is Interstate 295 south via Exit 84A.
