An Interstate 270 Maryland mainline shield remains in use southbound between Montrose Road and junction Interstate 270 Spur. At the time of Interstate 70S, the Interstate 270 Spur freeway comprised Interstate 270 itself. Later on Interstate 270 overtook Interstate 70S to the east and the Interstate 270 Spur freeway became Interstate 470.
