Upon reaching the state house of Maryland, Maryland 70 comes to its southern terminus as traffic is diverted onto College Avenue. This photo shows State Circle, which surrounds the capitol building. The road system in this part of Annapolis can be confusing, with angled streets and one-way streets. Signs are fairly plentiful to assist in getting around the downtown area. Photo taken 06/01/03.
Maryland 70 North
After commencing its northbound journey at the foot of the state capitol in Annapolis, Maryland 70 heads north on Bladen Street and then Rowe Boulevard until it reaches Maryland 435. The boulevard is tree-lined with a well-manicured median. Photo taken 06/01/03.
Continuing north, Maryland 70 crosses an inlet of the Severn River, then approaches U.S. 50-301. Notably, U.S. 301 is omitted from these signs. Also notable is that hidden Interstate 595 begins it westbound journey toward Washington at this interchange. Original plans called for Interstate 595 shields to be installed on the westbound sign after the designation was approved, but officials instead decided to leave the freeway as just U.S. 50-301. As a result, several signs remain along U.S. 50 that feature a space allocated for the Interstate 595 shield. Photo taken 06/01/03.
Northbound Maryland 70 reaches the ramp onto eastbound U.S. 50 and northbound U.S. 301 en route to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the Eastern Shore. Use U.S. 301 north to Maryland 302 east to reach Dover, the capital of Delaware. Photo taken 06/01/03.
Passing under the freeway, Maryland 70/Rowe Boulevard reaches the exit to westbound Interstate 595/U.S. 50 and southbound U.S. 301. Use U.S. 50 east to reach Interstate 97 north to Baltimore. Photo taken 06/01/03.
