Maryland 267 constitutes a short loop into Charlestown from Maryland 7 (Old Philadelphia Road) west of North East. The state route predates Maryland 7 (which predates U.S. 40) as the main east-west through route across Cecil County. It is possible that Maryland 267 was originally a part of the U.S. 40 alignment between Perryville and North East.
