Maryland 268

Maryland 268 comprises a short connector between Maryland 279 (Elkton Road) and Maryland 7 (Main Street) at downtown Elkton. Maryland 279 is the main route between Elkton, Interstate 95, and Newark, Delaware. Maryland 7 splits between Main and Howard Streets through the heart of downtown. North Street in conjunction with Maryland 213 (Bridge Street) provide the main north-south avenues through the Cecil County seat.

Southern Terminus - Maryland 7 (Main Street) - Elkton
Maryland 7 splits between the one-way street couplet of Main Street (eastbound) and Howard Street (westbound) through downtown Elkton. The two part ways at Maryland 213 (Bridge Street) two blocks west of the south end of Maryland 268 (North Street). Maryland 268 begins to the left via North Street northbound from Maryland 7 (Main Street) eastbound. The state highway intersects High Street in one block near Union Hospital before crossing over the AMTRAK Northeast Corridor between Stockton Street and Maple Avenue. High Street provides for two-way traffic between Locust Lane and Bridge Street as an alternate route for Maryland 7. Photo taken 04/13/04.
Northern Terminus - Maryland 279 (Elkton Road) - Elkton
Follow Maryland 268 (North Street) northward across the AMTRAK Northeast Corridor and one finds themselves in a residential area adjacent to Elkton Middle School. The state route ends quickly north of its intersection with Elkton Boulevard / Kentmere Avenue at junction Maryland 279 (Elkton Road). Elkton Road widens to four lanes on the three mile drive between Maryland 279 and the Exit 109 cloverleaf interchange of Interstate 95. Photo taken 04/13/04.
Maryland 279 (Elkton Road) eastbound at the northern terminus of Maryland 268 (North Street). The north-south route links Elkton Road with downtown Elkton and Maryland 7 (Main Street). To the left is Walnut Lane, a connector roadway between Maryland 268 & 279 to Ricketts Mill Road. Across the Big Elk Creek is the south end of Maryland 316.
